Perrin Performance Tune

Guys,

If any of you have been thinking about flashing your ECU, Perrin will be releasing their tune in the next couple of weeks. Based on my conversation with Chris and Jeff the ECUtek cables will arrive in the next week or so. I just took my car to their shop and had the ECU flashed. I feel a difference (definitely good) but need more time in the car to explain. Good Luck!

digital_assassin 09-13-2012 05:06 PM

Are you a test mule for the ECU flash? What did it do?

gmookher 09-13-2012 05:24 PM

tell us more, one one tune? no e85?

Thatruth2001 09-13-2012 05:55 PM

I am the first car flashed without the stock intake (injen installed) or Perrin exhaust parts. If you go to their facility in Hillsboro Jeff will flash you. It really does not work if you are not a local at the moment as they do not have the ECUteck cables. This was not free, I paid.

What did the flash run ya?

ahausheer 09-13-2012 08:21 PM

Gains? So this is basically a flash for stock cars?

UncleFester 09-13-2012 09:17 PM

May I ask how much it cost you? (Feel free to PM)

Fuzzysmith 09-13-2012 09:47 PM

Actually, please don't PM. Just post it....and your results....please!

Ok, I know you guys want information on pricing, but I will defer to the guys at Perrin to answer those specific questions. Send them a PM, they are very responsive.

Prior to writing an initial review, I need to disclose the following information about the driver, tune and car setup:

Driver - Newbie Tuner (Proud Of It)

Tune - Once the cables arrive, I will pickup up my own ECUTek cable and submit my datalogs to Perrin for additional tuning and hopefully a free dyno in the next few weeks to tighten things up (like it really needs it). PLEASE NOTE the Perrin tune was created using the company's parts not 3rd party components as referenced below. Though the company could use this to their advantage to direct buyers towards their gear, Jeff and Chris seem to be committed to providing a variety of tunes for different parts. Regardless both guys were cool to work with and answer my newbie questions.

Car Setup:
Intake - Injen CAI / Short Ram
Overpipe / Cat - Nameless Performance MT fitment only
Greddy SP Elite Exhaust
Perrin Crank Pulley
Tires - Front 18/225/40 / Rear 18/255/35
Eibach Prokit w/ whiteline camber correctionbushings

MPG - Prior to the tune I had averaged approximately 26.5 miles per gallon. Since the tune, I reseted the MPG tracker and observed a slight increase to 27.5 mpg. Again let me remind everyone, I live in Vancouver, WA and commute to Portland. Average mph on the commute is 15 to 20 mph in traffic and 17 miles from home to office. I plan on doing a 50 to 100 mile drive over the weekend and anticipate the milage will increase.

Gears / Torque / Powerband - Smooth like butter baby. . . . For me at least 1st was the worst gear, it just seemed well stressful and short especially in situations like driving in a parking garage, but now power and torque just seem to be consistent from the low to high ends of the RPM range. The surprising thing I noticed was the impact tune had on downshifting. Prior to the tune, my car specifically wanted to pull to the right, but now the cars balance seems to be uninterrupted moving for example from 5th gear to 4th doing 70 to 80 mph. I will test more later this evening when traffic dies down.

Injen CAI Idle - This has been interesting. Prior to the tune and actually going to get the ECU flashed the car stalled and had done so a couple of times earlier this week. While driving home this evening the idle was smooth ( still have the crickets).

HP / Acceleration - Jeff mentioned I would see a 10 HP increase on stock. I want to be careful with expectations. Does the car accelerate better? Hell yes it does, but I would contribute this to the balance of the tune to taking advantage of the exhaust modifications. The exhaust note has change for the better. Regarding HP increase, I want to know just like everyone else, but will wait and share the dyno results in the coming weeks.

Recommendation - If you have some money burning a hole in your wallet, live in the Portland area or willing to drive to Portland I would recommend you get this flash done to your ride, you will not regret doing so. But again please be advised, I have only driven the car approximately 30 miles since have this done earlier today. Gotta run (oops I mean drive) my kids to dinner.

Cant wait to see this pitted up against the east coasters tunes.

I've got a meeting at Intel tomorrow AM so I may stop in. I could use some more umpff and a pulley anyway :). The pulley looked great on your car and you seemed to like it so what the hell, it's pretty cheap.

I've been wanting to take a cruise out there and pick up a Filter element. Might have to do that soon.

I also have this tune and its AWESOME.

Right now my car is stock, but after the tune you could tell there was a difference.

We will be doing a full Stock Dyno, Exhaust Dyno, Intake Dyno, and Flash Dyno here in the next couple weeks to show the gains with Perrin.

Highly recommend the Tune, even of us with the AT model its worth it!

@Thatruth2001 was it you I gave a ride to at Cars and Coffee?

Thatruth2001 09-14-2012 02:23 PM

Yes sir. After riding in your car I had to have the tune. Jeff and Chris took care of me yesterday. The tune is worth every dollar. On another note, did you put those rims on your car?
