Dealer "Simoniz Glass Coat" option

Was anybody else offered a service called Simoniz Glass Coat from their dealer? It seems to be similar to opti-coat but also comes with a teflon coating for the interior as well. I was just wondering if anybody else got the glass coat applied to their car or happen to know anything about the product?

We used to offer it at Audi, but I have no idea how well it worked. I'd honestly be interested to know myself...

I opted for something similar from my dealer when I ordered my BRZ (paint protection and interior as well). It was 299 I believe... I'll report back when I pick it up.

I got it done with my BRZ. I dont really feel it did anything.

Im having my car opticoated and done right this weekend. I feel I lost the money on the Simoniz job.

My dealer offered it for 450. I went ahead and got it but only had the interior done the day i picked it up (which I saw no difference after they applied, the car just seem to have a stronger "new car" smell to it). Im getting a clear bra installed and then am going to take it back to the dealer to get the exterior done but I want to get some opinions/feedback for getting it done. I can still opt out at this point...well I think. The product sounded a lot like opti-coat to me.

It's a complete waste of money. It's like a scam these days. It used to be something important to have done to a car a long time ago when cars did not come with a clearcoat on the paint from the factory.

Now it's completely useless and dishonest to offer as a service.

It probably is very similar. I think the Simoniz treatment on the interior is to act as a sort of stain repellant.

I had it on my Cobalt SS. Completely worthelss and offers no stain repelent at all... I had some sprite touch the side of the roof liner and left a mark. And the body coat did nothing either...

My shop fixed a Civic last year... the customer complained because she paid for simonizing at the dealer, but we didn't do it since the insurance didn't tell us to.

The adjuster came out and talked to her and said he would pay for the simonizing. Guess how much it cost to get done/outsourced.... $40. She paid about $400, and the dealer sends it out, lol. Genius scam by dealers...

When a dealer asks if you want to buy something you say no.

chandz05 09-14-2012 03:46 PM

I got it done, but only because of the 7 year warranty it comes with. Any stains/crap i can't get off the paint, the dealership will replace with a factory part for $0. Same on the interior, dealer covers 100% to replace anything with a permanent stain. Don't really care about the actual Simoniz stuff.

yjbeach 09-14-2012 03:56 PM

It's a scam as is nitrogen in your tires.

Turbowned 09-14-2012 04:17 PM

Well, nitrogen in tires is not a scam per se, just an obscenely overpriced service.

Nearly every dealership I have contacted to inquire about the BRZ had their version of an exterior / interior protection. Usually they add it on as an option (without asking you) and charge a ridiculous markup.
