It's coated with wrinkle paint, and made from billet T6 aluminium. The texture is very similar to the texture on the header cover (the one which says BOXER on it in the engine bay).

I'm thinking of changing my gear knob, I found this one from Revolution, but I can't find information about its weight, does anyone know anything?

Amazon shows 160g but not sure if that includes the packaging. Even though it's out of stock, you could pose the question there and someone who owns one might answer.

gpvecchi 09-16-2022 05:08 PM

I read on a japanese forum that's made of Duracon, and weight is around 100g, 50mm in diameter and 5 mm lower than stock.

Haha, nah, it's just a GMRS radio. It was so that I could communicate with the GF when we were road-tripping to autocross, and also to allow me to listen into radio calls during events, haha.

I had the TRD one, paired with the TRD short shifter, and I didn't like it: too light (105g), a little too wide, and the flat top was not for my grip.
I actually have the new Tom's carbon knob for ZN8/ZN6: perfect.
50 mm diameter, 5 mm lower like the TRD, but full rounded.
180g. It's perfect, the stock one was a little too heavy.

Looks good. I like the radio and peddle dance buttons. I had a CB radio in college I exclusively used for the PA function to be a brat.

That's what I did after trying lighter.
My Miata was the opposite.

I would scare people on the sidewalk or tell lingering drivers to move along like a cop or tell people their gas cap is open or yes, I probably whistled n holla’d.

soundman98 09-18-2022 03:05 PM

i always had cb's on a shelf ready to go in all my cars. never made it there though. i'd abuse it too much!

Haha, in my old Outback, back in college, I got my hands on four PA speakers (three of them 6" in diameter, and one of them a wide 12" unit). Combined they were loud enough to be used in a small stadium. I hid them all under the car, hooked up to a dedicated AMP, which had two inputs: a microphone, and a 3.5mm jack. The microphone I used in similar vein as you, to do stuff like announce, "STEP AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE," in a very loud manner.

However, my favorite trick was to plug in my Palm Pilot, which allowed me to play all manner of sound effects. Very, VERY loud sound effects. The best one was a 2 minute long engine startup of a turbine engine, and it was absolutely hilarious to play that sound, and then start the actual engine when it was so loud nobody could hear it, and then slowly drive away while everyone was staring wondering what the hell kind of engine swap I'd fit under the hood.

I would broadcast music too or make fart sounds. It was pretty immature stuff.

weederr33 09-20-2022 12:23 PM

I always find myself going back to the TRD knob for some reason. I really like the feel and positive engagement without it feeling soulless.

Super jelly of that set up. Not sure which I love more, the bezel or the knob. :confused0068:

MX-5RACER 12-13-2022 09:22 AM

I have the Voodoo knob in my BRZ and I love it. Good price, and a very high-quality finish. My Dad has one on his Miata since the '90's and loved it so much he put one on his NSX.

Here is a picture of my set-up from their website:

Depends on what I'm doing in our Gen 2, and I am a bit biased, but Killer B all the way...

For daily the Black Delrin $29

For Auto-X or play things, the white WRC on an extension is super easy to see in peripheral vision and closer to the wheel.

It isn't a CB. It's a GMRS radio. The girlfriend has one in her car and we used to use them to communicate when road tripping to autocross events together, but now we drive the same car at autocross, so not so much anymore lol.

Two words.
First starts with a B.
Second starts with a P.

Am I correct?

Raceseng Ashiko. I wish it were about 10-15% smaller, but I briefly went back to stock and couldn't stand how light the stock knob is.

Had the same feeling after ordering Ashiko. So I went ahead and ordered slammer which is about 15% smaller and is perfect size wise for me. Can’t comment on weight of course as mine is aluminum for automatic transmission. Picture are few posts up.

Funny enough I thought about going to the Slammer after trying the ashiko. But looking around for pictures, the slammer looks good when it's flush with the boot or shift collar (like on yours). due to the reverse lockout ring on manual subarus, it ends up looking a bit awkward

Going on 10 years old. Still works like new!

FSFRS 01-12-2023 05:02 PM

That's more or less what my knob looked like (2013)

It looked disgusting, and I wasn't the original owner of the car so I felt like I just needed to replace it.

I've had an ashiko on this car and it was too big/heavy imo.

mikko86 03-07-2023 07:38 PM

Can anybody confirm if gr86 and gr corolla knobs fit first gen frs/gt86?

gpvecchi 03-08-2023 05:38 PM

GR86 fit.
