Best roads in USA for FRS
 

Tail of the Dragon in NC moutains (http://www.tailofthedragon.com/) got 318 curves in 11 miles. When I get my CEL FRS out of the shop, I`ll be making this road trip. DRIVE LARGE

Don't crash it. That road is hella dangerous.

For anyone in the Maryland area, here are a few of my favorites...

Pacific Coast Highway. I like the stretch between San Francisco up into Oregon personally. Also Highway 21 between Boise and Stanley, Idaho. Also the "Twisted Sisters" in the Hill Country of Texas.

I hate to say it, but the Tail of the Dragon is pretty nice. The only thing is there is so many freaking people on there and they're all bumper to bumper going about 30-40 then back down to a stop every few corners because someone's pulling over for a hike or bathroom break in the woods.

My personal favorite is gotta be The BlueRidge Parkway. It's super relaxed, absolutely beautiful scenery and plenty of decent high speed straights and lots of super tight turns. There's also a road that I took that basically ran parallel with the BlueRidge Parkway that had a huge amount of turns, several great straights and a pretty good flat surface. I don't remember what it's called, if I find it I'll let you guys know. But certainly go check it out 'ya'll'.

Stick to the outlying roads. Im pretty quick on my bike and do track days a lot but the locals fly past me like your not even moving and thats a bit sketchy on that narrow ass poorly kept road. Not to mention the attention that road has recieved over the years. It's no fun at 35mph. Consider the Gap to be the big ride at the amusement park that you have to wait in line for 2 hours to ride. It's fun but not really worth the wait. The other rides are almost as good and there's no line so you can ride as much as you want. The other rides being all the other roads around there. Blueridge pkwy is one of my favorites.

Already done tail of the dragon, ill be heading out there again before winter with a few clubs. One of my favorite places to go as youll meet some pretty capable road racers out there.

I also love the Blue Ridge Parkway granted I've only ever ridden it on my motorcycle but it was still fun. Just make sure you watch out for bikes in that area. The whole place is covered in them.

As far as the tail goes some of these people seem to have gotten some shit luck, lol. The 3 times I've driven it I never had a problem with slow people in front of me. Which was good because those times I was lucky enough to be driving my buddies R33. I can't wait to take the FR-S up there. I know we hare having a bunch of people from Atlanta all drive up on the 6th to drive it.

Blue Ridge Parkway isn't bad. At least it is better than Skyline Drive. Skyline is significantly slower, usually has more traffic, is more heavily patrolled, and costs money.

The Dragon is definitely worth the trip. Go during a time it is not likely to be busy. Busier times of the year mean more traffic and law enforcement. I don't think it is inherently any more dangerous than other mountain roads, but its popularity and its "Hurr, it's a racetrack, durr" reputation mean lots of people and thus idiots go there. I've been to a few meets, fairly small, 20-30 cars. Ultimately one, usually two people crash. Pushing it too hard.

Speaking of, folks, remember by virtue of the fact these fun roads are in desolate areas, they are far from help. At least on roads like Blue Ridge and the Dragon if you do wreck, it is likely someone will come across you quickly, but Fire and EMS services are a loooong way away. Keep an edge, it is a public road not your personal race track. Never drive in such a way that even a couple mistakes could be very dangerous. Try not to drop a wheel (gravel is especially dangerous for bikers) and for F's sake don't cross the yellow line. I personally rolled up on a fatal accident at the Dragon because some bozo sportbiker crossed the line right into a cruiser.

Hell yeah! My girl and I used to live in Germantown, and would head up 270-N to PA every now and again. Would take her Integra on the back/side roads and have a blast. Gorgeous scenery.

So, if you're heading to the Tail of the Dragon, make it a point to also drive the Cherohala Skyway and Rte 28 (the Hellbender). Both are nearby and are very fun indeed.

As far as the Tail of the Dragon, my advice is to drive it at a time when there's likely to be little traffic, if you want to have it all to yourself. There's not many other drivers at 6am. But that also means you should be extra careful and safe, because there's fewer people around to help you.

That said, if you do drive it during the day, there are services set up to take quality pictures of your car on the road and sell them on the internet later. You can even order prints. Here's my Zed on the Dragon from back in May!

I totally agree. I have done the Tail / Entire Blue Ridge Parkway in my former Porsche, but also did just the BRP in my Miata. Both amazing, memorable trips. Honestly, if you're looking to "hoon" around and drive really fast then neither of these roads are really the best. There are a LOT of cops on the Tail of the Dragon...
