Color choice problems. Shoot me.
Hey Everyone,
I've been stalking these forums for awhile now. Today i'm going to purchase my FR-S however it has to be ordered in. My issue is I cannot at all decide what color I want. Firestorm or Ultramarine. I'm running out of time. I'll be down there soon paying for it. I loved the red intiially, then I started to see videos of the Ultramarine. Then I saw pictures and the blue looked terrible (to me) in daylight. But i'm not sure if that's because of over exposed photos, or maybe it looked great for the contrast people used. No dealership near me has any in stock other than argento. I am looking for thougts. Does anyone have any true to life photos to give me an idea of what these look like in person? Some photos the blue looks so light, other photos the firestorm looks dull. |
Those are my two color choices also. The RED looks fantastic, but I really think I'm gonna go with the Ultramarine because it'll probably blend in a little more. Not to mention when detailed well, it looks soooooooo deep.

I will say this about red as a colour for a car, if you plan on keeping a red car for a long time, expect to have different levels of fade on the various panels. Red is one of the easiest colours on a car for me to detect differences in the deepness of colour. I dunno what it is. I've owned a red celica, a red ae92 all at the time when they were about 16 years old. 1988 ae92 was with me in 2005, 1990 celica was with me in 2006. Both had stock paint, both had uneven shades of red over time.
I would predict that you'll start noticing fade on a red car after 5 years from now easier than a darker coloured car with metalic flake in it. |
You MUST get hot pink. No other choice and you MUST listen to us.
But seriously, get a color that YOU want. Actually all the color choices look awesome on the car. Color is an opinion, not a fact. There is a media section in this forum: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=30 You should check out the color threads like this one: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7343 |
I guess my question, is this a realistic accurate color comparison?

The appearance of GBS depends on the light. No matter the light it's always amazing though.
Here's some pictures of my car from member sbxjap http://i.imgur.com/51XPs.jpg http://i.imgur.com/x0kEz.jpg http://i.imgur.com/0f7cS.jpg Here's my member journal for more low quality iphone pictures http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7268 My honest opinion.... I can see why this is difficult. They're both excellent colors in their own ways Red screams sports car, blue is nice and mellow about it. In the sunlight, GBS and DGM really do it for me. Subaru really used a proper red for these cars, it's not a boring/generic red by any means but it just didn't do it for my quite the same way the mellowness of GBS did. I try to not attract attention in my cars because I'm frequently driving a bit spirited...Also, My family has a history of having bad luck with red cars so I didn't consider it an option. |
It's settled. Ultramarine :).

exceptionally nice colors! |
The way I see it: if you want something flashy, get the firestorm; if you want something more subtle, go with the ultramarine.
