FR-S 1st autox on Sunday
 

After 5 years of autocrossing a MINI Cooper S, I made the switch to the rwd FR-S. It was a cool day, with a high of only 65 and mostly cloudy. The starspecs were certinly not at their grippiest, but I found the car had a huge amount of throttle oversteer on corner exit. It was easy to maintain control and a lot of fun, but I was pretty slow compared to usual since I was skidding so much. Do others find the FR-S really lose , or was it just due to a cool day and lack of rwd experience?

I can't speak for the FR-S as much but drove a BRZ recently and with a Cusco 20mm front bar it still had a bit much oversteer (non throttle induced) and plenty of throttle oversteer too. We were also running the Dunlops in a 235/40-17 on a stock sized rim. I similar setup FR-S did not seem to have the same oversteer problem without throttle but still had plenty of throttle oversteer.

What kind of alignment settings were you guys running?

mine's still factory alignment - whatever that is.

I used to drift my 99' miata all the time, & I totally agree. It does have very loose suspension & its pretty unpredictable when it begins to lose it. I'm not sure why. It handles extremely great when it does grip thou. Idk

Honestly I found the oversteer pretty easy to handle (once I spun it into a line of cones at 55mph and got a feel for exactly where the limit is at least). The understeer when braking hard into a slower corner was what kept stealing seconds from me.

I'm a pretty inexperienced driver though and this was on stock tires.

I found a little toe in in the rear and using the crash bolts up front made a world of difference. Much of the rear instability and unsteer went away. The handling was much more confidence inspiring after alignment and tires. I'm running the dunlops 215 size at the moment.
