2014 model year?

With the impressive gains being had in tuning a completely stock car and minor modifications to the exhaust, I'd be willing to bet that Toyota / Subaru will up the HP output by a good 5 - 10%.

Also, reading though my C&D and Road and Track magazines, they make mention of a convertible model in the works! Not my cup of tea, but Toyota / Subaru must feel that the car is doing well enough to expand their lineup & options.

Since my buying window has been extended near the release of the 2014 model, I'll probably be picking that up anyway. I would hope to see great improvements over the current model even if it's not a big difference. The car in it's current state has already sold me. I've never owned a car over 210 HP anyway, so having this 200 HP car is power enough. But from all the reviews, that is probably the biggest gripe at the moment. I'd love to see Toyota/Scion/Subaru do something about it. My hopes is a Super Charger that would push the engine to 250 HP with a better power band with the changes in the head/intake. I WANNA SEE ITB'S SOOOO BAD!! My dream has always been to have a 20v silver/black top Motor. This would surely get me closer to that!

6. 2014 Scion FR-S Cabrio
Every motor journalist's favorite car of 2013 — whether it's a Subaru or a Scion — will be beheaded for 2014. Except for the new soft roof, don't expect a lot of other changes in the structure and substance of the FR-S. The 2.0-liter flat-4 engine will still be in front, the wheels in the back will still be driven and the handling will still be mind-bogglingly entertaining.

But that's only the start of the good news that's coming for these twins. See, there's this thing called forced induction...

5. 2014 Subaru BRZ STI
If there's one criticism of the Subaru BRZ that stings, it's that it doesn't have enough power aboard. Back in 2011 Subaru showed a lightweight BRZ STI concept with a tweaked valvetrain that the company said was good for 250 hp. That's up 50 horses over the regular BRZ, but hardly what the Subie hard-core have been hoping for.

Nope. What the enthusiasts really want is a blown Subaru STI with 300 or more hp. And the rumors keep coming in that that's what's actually coming. But don't necessarily expect it to be a turbocharger doing the heaving; there are some whispers out there that say a belt-driven supercharger will take up residence atop the flat-4. You know a blower, like on a Top Fuel dragster.

I was planning on picking up my BRZ as a gift for myself after I graduate in December. Then I figured that the newer models were going to come out a few months later. So I've decided that I'll save a bit more for a down payment and buy a 2014. Unless I don't like the changes that are announced, then I'll get whats on the lot

Do we know what the time frame for the 2014 Model year is yet? Is it gonna be in May with the first 86? Or June for the general public?

UncleFester 09-11-2012 10:25 PM

Late summer is typical for next model year releases. When a redesigned or new model comes along they are typically seen much earlier.

We just need a official 2014 speculation thread or future development thread.

Seems like every 5 minutes someone comes on here with "ZOMG DA 2014!!!"

This whole convertible thing bothers me. The reason they didn't put a moonroof in was supposedly because of the loss of structural rigidity, which pales in comparison to the losses that will occur from being a convertible.

Sleeperz 09-11-2012 11:58 PM

It is to sell more cars to the non track crowd.
It does nothing to the original car except spread the development cost around.

The contradictions in your post are kind of funny...

Uh oh, brings up memories of waiting for the 2013 model all over again. 2014 is it for me as well. I'm looking forward to finding out all the "little" updates they do vs. any major ones since I'm in the market for a bottom of the barrel car.

Are you guys gonna rip out the mandatory rear view camera? Just wondering....
