No deposit for ordering a BRZ!! Is it true?

I was wondering about the procedure to order either FR-S or BRZ. Should we put a deposit prior to ordering it? Because my sales guy told me that I will only need to put a deposit to secure the car and not for ordering it.

Can any of you list any dealer that doesn't require a deposit to order either BRZ or FR-S?

Let me know your experience guys! Please help me comments and opinions.

Thanks!

I had a put a down deposit to lock my car even though I didn't specifically order it. Although, they never cashed the check until after all the paper work was done.

Is it refundable? I guess it was to tight you with the dealership. I'm just lucky then. Thanks

The dealer I originally ordered from took a $100 refundable deposit to put my name on the order. Unfortunately my financial situation took a dump in the three months that the car was being built, so I had to get the deposit back and wait 'til next year. I know a person who used to work for Bentley; they would take "fifty bucks and a firm handshake" as a deposit :)

Only $100? That's still a good deal because its alos refundable. Most of dealers that I contacted were stating not refundable deposit. Sorry to hear that man. Wish you all the best and keep smiling to get one of those two siblings.

I gave dealer a check for $200. It was not cached though. They said that they will return check if I decide to pull off my order before car is received by dealer. I understand the need of something showing your serious intention to get a car.

I agree with you about the serious intention. Sometimes bad dealerships were just playing with your money and they won't return it although they said it was refundable. What dealership it is?

It was Flemington Subaru in western NJ. I can't complain though, they offered me to buy someone's car in three weeks. So wait was short enough.

Yes, it was fully refundable. No hidden fees or anything. And like I said, it's not like the cashed the check until after I had finalized the purchase.

IMO if you are not able to put down a deposit that may be non-refundable than you probably aren't ready to buy the car. Mine was $500, another dealer here wanted $2k but said it would be refundable. That's the whole point of the deposit- to secure the car from other serious buyers. If you are a serious buyer than the deposit should be no big deal to you.

Deposit is always dealer specific. I have ordered quite a few cars and the norm seems to be $1000. I put that down towards my E92 M3, Cayman R (originally wanted 10% deposit), and my BRZ. I normally do it through a credit card. I ended up getting my BRZ from another dealer so the dealer I ordered from just refunded my credit card. The point of a deposit is to assure the dealer that you are serious about purchasing the car. If you don't put down a deposit, then don't be surprised if the dealer finds someone who is willing to.

Always have it in writing that the deposit is refundable so that if they don't give it back, you can just dispute the charge (assuming you charge it to a credit card)

I have a SOLD order for a car with the VON and everything on it, and I didn't put a deposit down. Santa Monica Subaru went through with it.
