Why are these systems to expensive?
I have never seen SCs priced so high before and I have seen how much my dad paid for his 'Vette and Hummer, could have bought both for the price of the Innovate or Vortech systems...

SillySaxon 09-12-2013 11:27 AM

I get paying a bit extra for getting a Vortech tune from someone like Perrin with the ECUTek already set up for you, but still, over $5k for a basic SC is ridiculous, it isn't even a complicated system like a twin screw or something.
It looks nice, it's custom built but all that's not worth 5k, maybe 3k

King Tut 09-12-2013 12:13 PM

If you think these Vortech prices are high. Don't look into E46 and E92 M3 kits based on Vortech blowers.

Kodename47 09-12-2013 01:09 PM

Is it worth changing Innovate to Sprintex as the supercharger itself is a Sprintex unit & kit. Innovate aren't the only ones doing the kit, they are the only ones in the USA however ;)

The Raptor kit is no longer happening either.

Litchfield's is a Rotrex like the Kraftwerks one.....

Even the E36 kit by VF is 4500 dollars and the car hasen't been in production for over a decade

Those are German cars of a higher class though.
I was honestly expecting prices closer to Honda FI kits which are about 30% cheaper than these

Where are you getting a Honda FI kit for $2450? This car isn't a Honda econobox. It is a nearly $30k RWD sports car.

SillySaxon 09-13-2013 12:24 PM

TSI and Turbonetics Honda Civic kits are less than $3k.

I suppose it makes sense because it is new but the other thing is that some of these kits aren't all that powerful. For me it seems like a 40whp 7psi kit shouldn't cost $5500.

Oh well I'll just wait for the prices to come down or people to sell their used ones. I guess I just wasn't expecting these prices

E36 = Civic of the BMW world. Parts are plentiful and cheap, and the cars themselves are very cheap on the used market.

I would say the FRS would be the "expensive" car vs an E36, in both features/technology

Which kit is 40whp @7psi? The vortech kit has people hitting 250-270 depending on the tuner/map used. I would say an NA dyno would be in the 170-180whp range. Thats nearly a 90whp increase depending on the tune (dyno vs street/e-tune)

If you want a REALLY cheap turbo kit build, check out my build back in 2010

You pay for part quality when it comes to FI IMO.

That's a sweet build haha.
I see that with a tune the vortech gets a lot more. I just remember seeing something like 210 at the wheels which is 40 more than the ~170 stock usually gets.

I'll admit I haven't looked at the chargers for a few months, I've been sequestered in Basic Training and Tech school

Kits aren't priced based on how much whp they can create or how many psi they run. They are priced on how much they cost to put together and how many a company thinks they can sell at a given price point. I paid less than $5500, I run 12 psi, and I am making an extra 160 whp by the way.

Mostly this.
Now that I have bought the car and drive it I just can't shake the feeling that I need to feel more power and hear that wonderful SC sound under the hood.

Then I look in my bank account and frown, sometimes cry
