Trunk will not open
Trunk will not open. Tried the Key Fob and the Interior button. Any advice?
Thanks |
Use the key in the fob. Then when trunk is open push little button on left side in trunk. You've somehow defeated the trunk opening.

I'm having the same issue, i heard a pop while driving so no idea what that was about and ever since the thing wont open even with the key in the slit, no idea what to do other than take it to a dealer. |
This has to be the most common error with these cars. There is another post from a new guy right above yours too, how did you miss it with an almost identical title? ;)

Not the Fob. The physical key. There's a key hole on the underside of the trunk lid near the license plate.
|
There's a button on the left side of the trunk that you probably accidentally pressed. This will deactivate the trunk opening unless you use the key, just like Grimlock stated above. Open the trunk, look on the left side and you'll see the button. It's been covered here many many many times before. :)

If your physical key won't open the trunk, the next thing to try is to pull on the rear seat backs hoping they will fall down. Once down you can reach/crawl to the back of the trunk and pull the green emergency release handle.
If that doesn't work the next step is to jimmy/pry the lock. If that doesn't work, abandon the trunk as a loss. If that doesn't work, dynamite. Then post a picture. |
haha we've all had this problem
follow instructions above. Once the trunk is open, look towardst eh driver's side and you will see a small button. Push the button to turn the trunk unlock feature back on |

This blargeflargen button. This is gonna be like the driving light button that used to be on the top of the steering column of most suby's.

Owned the car for 18 months and it just happened to me tonight for the first time. Had to search the forum for the answer. Thanks to all that posted the solution. An inexpensive design change to put a cover over the button would solve the problem going forward. Just sayin'

I was trapped in my trunk for 2 days because I couldn't use a search on taptalk. Luckily some thieves saw my keys on the ground and intuitively opened the trunk using the hidden keyhole near the rear plates.

Yup, just happened, hence the revival of this ancient thread. Owner manual, schwoner manual, I come here for my answers.

The button in the trunk is not a bad idea but badly placed. It is possible for stuff in the trunk to slide into it.
If the switch is activated then the trunk release buttons on the dash and the trunk lid are disconnected. The only way in is to use the emergency metal key hidden in the key fob. |

In the EU we don't have that button we also don't have that green emergency release handle, we can continue to kidnap people and put them in our trunks without having to worry they can escape or fearing that we can't open the trunk to exchange them for money.
