Engine bogging down
I've driven my car for 6,000 miles, but in the past week it has developed a problem. The engine bogs down at times. I'll be driving on the street, shift into 2, and then it seems to just bog down and slow down, forcing me to add a little more gas. In addition, there is a kind of hesitation when accelerating from rpm's of 3,000 or less.
My first thought was that a caliper might be dragging, so I checked all four wheels, but they same fine, with no heating up of the disks. My second thought is bad gas, so I finished the tank and filled it up with 93 Shell. Too early to see if that has made a difference. Anyone else experience this? |
honestly you might have the dreaded CEL issue developing but just hasn't set off a light yet. that would be my guess is that your cam gear isn't advancing or retarding the timing at the correct times which just hasn't for some reason or another been enough to set off the light yet.

Any mods?
BTW, check your air filter. I'd have cars bog because there were leaves blocking the airflow. |
No mods. Stock.
Is this what the CEL-related syndrome is all about? It is not stalling and rpms are not changing. |
it sounds like what some of my friends have encountered. they just noticed the engine being less responsive.

Hi all, sorry to bring back an old thread.
Just wondering, did the OP find out what's causing the problem in the end? I'm a bit curious to know bcos my 86 is starting to develop the same symptoms. Any other feedback/opinion would be welcome. Car is an AT, bone stock completely and has only got 28k kms on the clock. Cheers |
