Just getting my calipers painted and decalled. Very convenient location in Markham. If anyone is interested PM me for his phone number, I am happy to recommend his work.

Nicely done. Price?

Pics with entire car pls?

He charges $90 cash and includes grinding/prep, paint, clearcoat and decal. Very nice job and it can last a few years on new calipers. If you wait till after winter there will likely be oxidation on the calipers so the job will need to be redone more often.

I will post a whole car pic next week after installing the 5 Axis body kit!!

l8apexr 09-08-2012 06:58 PM

nice!

smbrm 09-09-2012 04:55 PM

Cool. Do you know what paint was used?

TheProspect 09-09-2012 07:39 PM

Usually is a heat resistant paint it's pretty easy to do. just gotta tape off the back and then put a garbage bag around the disk to keep everything clean.... i would go with engine paint is what it's called i think....

dcfr 09-13-2012 01:23 PM

Here's the details for anyone who loves DIY.

Dupli-Color DE1645 ceramic ruby red engine paint (12oz.) x1 = $11
FR-S brake caliper decal (sticker) x4 =$7

Total = $(11+7) + your own time.

Hope it helps. Enjoy.

travace 09-13-2012 01:24 PM

i was thinking about trying myself.

so is dupli-color the best paint to get for this? and can i brush it on so i dont have to remove the calipers?

Kimsey47 09-13-2012 01:27 PM

He didn't remove the pads/caliper to paint/prep?

There was more to it. I think he actually used caliper paint, AND he clearcoated as well. He also painted the "hub" of the rotor , for lack of a better word, in black.

dcfr 09-13-2012 03:01 PM

For $9 dollars more and try this.

Dupli-Color BCP400 red brake caliper kit = $19.
  • Ceramic resins resist heat up to 500 degrees
  • Fast drying durable finish
  • Dry to touch in 30 minutes/ can be handled in 1 hour
  • Resistant to chipping, chemicals, and brake dust
It contains ceramic coating with high heat resistant.

Enjoy and have fun for those who like DIY. Otherwise... get the cash ready and pay for someone to do it. Thank you.

wbradley 09-13-2012 06:19 PM

Best bang for your buck cosmetic mod IMHO

FBaxteR-S 09-13-2012 07:53 PM

Calipers too small.

Red just highlights our tiny 2-piston calipers (1 in the back?).

I decided go for black color on the caliper. Thanks for the pictures. Very nice indeed. But too bad the license plate drilled on the front bumper. You should tint the windows too. It will be so nice.

Black was a good choice, unless you could colour match ultramarine! I prefer the symmetrical look of the centre mount plate. Gonna get a tint next week. So, your turn to post pics or it didn't happen!

Yeah but it can be mounted to the grill. That's what my dealer did after I told them to not drill into the bumper under any circumstance.

Got mine done today, will post pictures later. Sick as a dog at the moment. Very cool guy, did a great job and was very professional.

Will be painting calipers with a few frs in AZ this weekend. I'm wanting to do red with white TRD letters. Are thsee decals heat resistant or are they under a clear coat? I'm almost thinking spray white, let it dry, use decals to mask off, brush on on red g2 caliper paint, let dry , remove stickers, clear vht caliper paint. Any suggestions?

The TRD would be cool.

wbradley 09-24-2012 03:38 PM

Get the heat resistant decals from Ebay for ~ $10. Paint and clearcoat the calipers. Then apply the decals.

Hamza7 09-24-2012 11:34 PM

that looks pretty good, I use to offer this service but it's a pretty hard job and a steal for $90 (jacking up, removing and hand torquing wheels back on)

I use to use the G2 kit available at next mod.

That's what I got from Kelvin at nextmod. Great product from G2. Heat up to 1k with no issue. But I'm too busy and no time to do it yet. Hope to try to get it done this week.

Any suggestion for a babyish blue colour? Gonna get new rims and put some blue nuts on them and felt like being matchy matchy.
Also is there a way to make it look like a brushed on metal?
Lastly, if I were to get my brz in december should i do it right before the win or should i wait til spring?
Thanks!

Duplicolor is easier to get
I'd say go with the G2 kit, it's a safer bet.

And before you start painting, remove the brakes, and grind/sand them til they're smooth, otherwise, they'll be textured and look like painted orange skin.
After sanding, clean all the pieces to ensure paint adhesion. Just re-assemble after the paint cures Et Voila!

Make your blue nuts stand out, paint your calipers a different colour, I'd say... black....

I like that idea. But for me I just figured having the blue calipers would try more attention to them and the nuts...sometimes i don't see the blue nuts til i really look at them.
What rim colour do you think goes best with blue nuts; gunmetal, black, matte black, gold

I didn't want to pull all my brakes apart and pads get replaced anyway. Like the high dollar brake kits, it all about the look of the caliper. I like it just to give a little accent color.

cslntuee 02-25-2013 12:41 AM

How did you make the black "FRS" on the calipers? decal or paint?

Thanks.

Heat resistant decals. You can get them on ebay or in my case the guy who did the job had them printed somewhere.
