Offical Toyota GT86 Track Event Review

Hey Guys

Toyota Switzerland had back in June when the GT86 was announced in Switzerland a promotion for a "Safety Track Event" where you could sign up (for some $$$ ofc) for to take part in a one day training with the GT86 at a race track.

Well, I just gathered 3 buddys on the same day they launched this promotion and we all signed up for the event.

As Switzerland is not really known to be... lets say, carfriendly... we do not have any race track at all in our country. However, since we are surrounded by 5 other countrys, most of them with race tracks, the event took place in France, on the Anneau du Rhin Track. And since Switzerland is quiet small, it was only 1 1/2h drive there.

The Event startet at 8.30am, and we had a total of 14 GT86 there, of which 3 where automatic. Morning was mainly Training, like how to drive a perfect line in a corner, what you do if you're entering the corner to fast, evading a cow on the street ((hehe, yes, a Cow <- Remember, its a Swiss Training, we need that)) and so on.
Afternoon was some slalom with time mesurement, and then, the last 2h we could drive the whole track in a "guided" way. Guided meant that the instructor was driving in front, and 4 cars each where following him, trying to keep about 3 carlanes behind him. No overtake was allowed, and every lap the 2nd car droped back to the end so a new one would be directly behind the instructor car.

This sounds boring, however, the insturctor was infact also one of the drivers for Toyota Swiss Racing Team, which is driving the VLN Series endurance race on the Nürburgring, so he was more into "lets have fun and try to catch me" than "oh no, drive slow n safe". Even tough he was driving an automatic GT86, it was almost impossible to keep up with him.

Best thing at the event was that Toyota did put 2 chasecams in Every car, which where filming the road and your face during the driving. I've added a short Video to this Post, if you're interessed in more just let me know, I've took home about 2h of Video material :-)


I wont tell you guys how the car is fun and amazing and whatever, you know that, I just had a hell of a funtime yesterday and cant wait now even more untill my GT86 finally arrives - btw, I just got a Call 2 days ago that it will be november, and not late september as they told me in the first place - cruel world :-(

And as far as I can see in the Video 1G is the maximum you could achive in the Car?

And yes, 1G is about the max you could do with the stock tires in the corners.
