Driving car with bad VVTI gear need help
Ok somthey said my VVTI gear needs to be replaced Scion Corp is telling me I shouldn't drive the car and the dealership is telling me I am fine to drive it and I need to drop off my rental and get my car anyone have any suggestions on what to do?
|
been driving with it on for 1000+ miles and no issues...as a plus you never have to turn off traction control...but that is just me
|
Wait, is the car not repaired yet? I would take Scion Corp's word over a stealership and let them eat the cost of the rental until its fixed.

Calling a larger dealership they told me anyone they had with the issue is being put into a rental until the parts come in. I'm so torn >.< |
i told the Toyota Master tech (who has already done a this repair on another FR-S) i will be driving it and he said it was fine...especially since parts were/are a week out. Checked the oil and nothing indicating problems, there is no ECU caused loss of power (no matter what you feel in the seat of your pants) and no indication of wear/tear on actual cam gear...so IMO only it is safe to drive with the CEL/SL on until a permanent is made available...

Been trying to figure this out myself. At least it appears the cam gear/timing is only slipping at idle. I don't think anyone has gotten misfires/CELs at higher rpms, where the chance of damaging the engine is likely greater.

A flashing check engine light means you may be doing damage to the catalytic converter if you continue to drive the vehicle. A solid CEL not urgent. |

The only time I felt a loss of power was in idle and directly after the lights turned on and didn't feel it since. |
Didn't the TSB get pulled off for evaluation? The TSB got pulled off by Subaru of America and Subaru of Canada and I'm still waiting for a new official TSB.

I didn't want them pointing a finger, and blaming me for damage and voiding my warranty/hassling me cause the CEL light was on and flashing.
Call it paranoid, but you never what they'll throw at you. |
if flashing do not drive...if not flashing drive it until it breaks, that is what warranty is for...if you are going to lose the car for a month or two (as some on here have) at least make it have been worth losing it for that period of time (once again my Opinion)

How come there are no links to official TSB's?
