IIHS Top Safety Pick - Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ

Hopefully this isn't a repost...

So our little cars are surprisingly very safe! That's always good to know and a peace of mind whether you're tracking it or driving a family member to do some groceries!

"The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) has announced four new inductees to the Top Safety pick list: the Subaru BRZ, Scion FR-S, Ford Escape and Acura ILX."

More ammunition to replace the MINI with the FR-S. "But honey, I think it is dangerous to drive the baby around in the MINI. We need all of our cars to be top safety picks!"

Only 120? That would just be a few bumps and bruises.

This is impressive. It echoes what the Australia/NZ safety test found. Note however, that IIHS hasn't yet tested the FR-Z for the new minimal offset crash test that they recently developed.

The new NHTSA tests are much tougher/higher standards. Subarus typically only get 4 stars with it. So I'm more interested in how it will do there.

I personally like the IIHS because it is private run and they serve insurance companies' interests. To me, IIHS safety picks mean less liability for insurance to pay out; which means pretty safe for us.

NHTSA has that new front offset collision, which should be interesting as many cars have failed that.

Pretty funny how they fit a rear passenger behind the driver, not sure how "real world" that is!
