yeah, same question as mobiart said, is it just the resonated catback or does he have front pipe (catted or uncatted) and that overpipe thingy

The Perrin variations I heard were catback. My SRT is header back without the secondary cat and the small resonator.

By buddy he meant me...lol I am his buddy xD.

2forme has been in my car many times, he knows the sound just as well as I do.

I have a catback, I do not have the front pipe or over pipe yet. The sound clips I posted are the best way to hear the difference between the two. The recordings are the closest you will come to hearing the exhaust without hearing it in real life. The sound clips are HIGH QUALITY, not YouTube quality (which is shitty) which is why I require you to download the .wav file and play it back on your computer rather than upload it to some website like youtube which would ruin the sound quality with compression.

As much as I like the sound, I would like to keep it quiet so I think the resonated pipe will be going back on soon. Plus later when I get the over pipe and catted front pipe I will want the resonated pipe anyways to keep the volume down as much as possible.

My opinion is if you don't care about loudness then go for un-resonated... If you want a quieter exhaust, keep it resonated, ether way it sounds great.

I'm leaning towards the resonated exhaust as I'd like it quieter and it sounds like it has a slightly deeper tone (although I could be wrong about that). In another thread a few people mentioned having a rattling issue with the resonated midpipe hitting the transmission tunnel. Did you experience that at all Sony when you had the resonated pipe on, or were there no issues with fitment? I think you mentioned the S-pipe being a bit close to things...but how about the resonated midpipe? Thanks.

I'm putting the resonated pipe back on my car today. I will check when I do that, however I think the resonator issue is for people with Automatic transmissions if I recall correctly....I have a Manual.

Looks and sounds Great!

I think I'm leaning toward Perrin resonated. I think I'll eventually go headerback, resonator should keep volume reasonable. Besides, if I ever get a Deuce and a half, that'll be plenty loud. (ear plugs needed if you open the window loud)

I can see that the torque dip narrows a bit with the over pipe so i guess it's just a matter of how much cash you have to spare.

Or am I completely missing something here?

I think the overpipe is integral to maximizing the tune's midrange and upper mid band torque.

It just makes things free flowing just the right amount without getting gassy down low, and only helps even more up top.

As I go thru the process of testing the pre-release tunes Perrin's given me, I dont think the gains are as impressive down low without the overpipe, its definitely a restriction point in the OE pipe system, and can say that if youre coughing out for the tune, the over pipe is a no brainer for anyone who wants to maximize the tunes day to day driveability in addition to the extra 3-4hp. it all adds up, this is a cumulative add part. It adds power across the entire spectrum. I'd say on point with 100 bucks per horsie

did anyone ever get DB readings on these? I want to track the car but need to keep it at 86 db or below

I went to Lime Rock Park with the unresonated Perrin Exhaust during a morning muffled session with an 86db limit. Didn't have a problem, sorry I have not gotten any DB readings, been super busy and haven't been able to get a hold of a DB meter.

In my experience with exhausts, resonated, catted, and a muffler is always going to be quiet. In my current car, I had to put cats back on it because with the headers, I got a raspy sound at a specific RPM I didn't like and it was beyond LOUD. The cats tamed the sound a bit, but not a lot. The rasp ended, but when you gas it, you definitely hear there are headers.

This engine I'm assuming works the same. I'd personally go with unresonated, catted, versus no cat/unresonated. You'll get that nasty sound if you add a header that you will not like. Cats are pretty good at taming the sound to a nice level without really making your car "quiet". Resonators just further quiet the sound to the point where you have a second layer of muffling behind the cats, before it even reaches the muffler. Personally, I prefer cats on, resonator off versus no cats, resonated.

I could be wrong, but this is what I intend on doing to my FR-S (ordered!) with the Perrin system even with a header in the future. It will give the loudness I want without being obnoxiously loud. Hopefully there will be sound clips with the various setups to get a comparison, but in person is always different. (Please use HD cameras :) )

I would love a video with thevperrin and invidia q300 next to each other and cabin noises, cuz I hate drone! I have a agency power catback...and I want to shoot myself in the face every time right around 2.5-3.5k

For some reason my tips don't align properly. No matter all the adjustment I do, the tips just don't align. My left tip protrudes
more than the right when ur looking at the car from the back

Nardi330 12-20-2012 08:10 PM

my tips seems to be fine and that's how i tighten the system up:

- align the muffler while both V clamps are loose;
- fit the 5 collars to secure the muffler;
- have someone holding the muffler in position, tighten the V clamps.

once the V clamps are tighten, the movement is limited and if it does move whole cat back move as one piece.

hope this helps.
