Subwoofer placement and car balance
So i've been looking to add a sub to my car, but i'm wondering if the placement of the sub would change the balance of the car. If you're going to add lets say 30lbs to right rear of the car, would that shift the way the car handles during autox?
anyone have experience with this? |
Make it removeable. When I have done autocross they made me take out my sub anyways.
|
Mine's in the rear left. Can't say I've noticed a big difference, but it's not like I've been doing 3X7R3m3m1e111!111!111 trackday driving all-day, everyday.

It should be removable. My friends always took theirs out during auto-x. The weight difference won't be enough to really unsettle the car during street driving. You looking at the one in the accessory brochure or an aftermarket one?
|
take out the spare its about the same weight, you dont need it since you have 2 years roadside assistance ;)
|
Go for dual 8's or 10's, one on each side :)

With a driver the car weighs ~2900 lbs. 30/2900 = 0.103 or 1.03%. You're changing the weight of the car by 1%. Would an F1 driver notice? Yep, probably. Would you or me? No. Do you notice a difference when you put a suitcase in the trunk? Me neither.
|
I made my sub box with 2 12's removable for track/autox days and those instances when I would _really_ need the trunk.
With it in the car I can't say I've noticed any negative impact to the handling of the car. Not sure how much it weighs. |
