transmission noise (when going to downshift)
 

Hey guys, I have been hearing an odd noise when i go to down shift. It sounds like something spinning up quickly. SPECIFICALLY as the shifter is half way to being in gear (in front of the gate) with the clutch in and setting the shifter at the gate i hear the noise every time i go to down shift into any gear. I also notice the same kind of noise or rattle as i accelerate through the gears. I have a video i could post if no one understands what i am talking about.

Yes i know how to drive stick before anyone asks. Been driving manual transmissions since i was 8 (superkarts)

Most likely you are hearing the gears speeding up due to the synchro's so that they can engage.

is it supposed to be that loud though. its so loud. and the shifter seems awfully notchy when shifting.

Maybe check the oil level in the g/box. There were stories of not enough oil in them floating around a while ago.

just being lazy and not wanting to get up to check....BUT the FRS has a trans dip stick right? havent checked for one

Not sure. My car is still a month away :sigh:

My WRX does but it's not a subie g/box in the 86 :iono:
