Cam Gear Related CELs - How many miles?

Just trying to collect some additional useful data. If you have/had any of the CELs elated to the cam timing system (see related threads), please respond to the polling question with the miles your car had at the FIRST occurrence of the CEL.

Personally, I do not have the issue (yet), but I like data. I want to be completely informed about any issues related to a car I own.

I think these data will be useful for the community.

NOTE:
Do not respond to the poll if you have not had a CEL related to the cam timing system. That means no BS about gas cap, ABS, o2 sensor, etc. Only cam timing issues, to keep the dataset accurate and focused.

Thanks!

Keeping this near the top.

Free bump.

Seeing the poll results, is it safe to extrapolate that when your car is past 500 miles, it is less likely to get Cam related CEL if it never had it?

first 717miles for me

Who knows what the trigger is also. It may not be mileage related at all but rather some other minuscule event that is happening at different times for different people. While the propensity for this to happen sooner rather than later might be higher, that is not sufficient to say that if you pass the X mile mark that you're going to be relatively safer or less prone.

We definitely need more information out of Toyota/Subaru in the coming weeks/months.

when I bounce off the rev limiter in 3rd, the traction light flashes, and the CEL comes on. I did a few tests by purposely revving to the fuel cut off in 3rd gear. Every time, the CEL came on as well as a quick flash of the traction control. Seems to only be in 3rd going to 4th gear.

you must be going fucking fast hitting top of 3rd lol

Silp3 09-10-2012 10:07 PM

Bad statistical inference, especially when you can easily explain that more cars will have lower mileage this early in the game.

Wait a few months and many more will be past 2000 miles and you should see more problems in the cars that went further, as the population of the cars in the higher mileage will be much higher.

top of 3rd is 85 mph. 95 105 isnt even 4th I don't think. That's fifth gear territory. Next time im at the strip I'll check it out
