HID Lights Question

Hello!

I am eagerly awaiting my FR-S but like most of you guys, I have already started the hunt for HID lights -- probably going with the 5k since its the nice bright white light.

The question I have is, I'm new to aftermarket modifications and I have read about the HID kits however, a lot of the kits I see have the slim ballasts which I am okay with but a few show an igniter box which looks like an adapter of sorts. Do all the kits come with one since HID's require more to get fired up?

Also, about mounting the ballasts and this igniter box (if applicable), where have you mounted it? Any pictures would help too just so I know where to put them since I have no clue :) Thanks!

yea, ballasts are waterproof and so are the connections.
With that said, its still recommended to put it where water wont get to it. just to be safe i assume.

But ive been through a number of heavy rain storms and my car is left outside. they havent gotten wet from what i can see and still work.

I mounted them near the bumper support on the passenger side and near the wheel wheel area on the driver side. You can refer to the photos for your reference (http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...64&postcount=4).

Thanks! Did you just use double sided tape to strap it down? If so, what kind?

We used commercial grade 3M adhesive to secure the ballast.

So since I have no idea - the H11 bulbs are for the low beam which is for the daily use.

I know some folks are replacing the DRL's with the 9005 LED bulb itself -- how does this work for the hi-beams since the same bulb is used for the hi beams. Again, I dont think the hi-beams are used as much so i wouldnt think it would be a big deal.

Don't quote me on this, as im not sure about the lights for the FR-S. But generally on cars where the same bulb is used for both- it will be dualfilament bulbs iirc. So there will be one filament for low, and another for high.
