black housing blinkers

i couldn't find it in a search, so....
to black out the blinkers housing do i need to bake them open like the headlights or is there a different process?

I did mine...they are sealed just like the headlights. I baked them for about half to 3/4 of the time since they are smaller. Worked like a dream. Just know that the reflector inside doesn't want to hold paint, so use some primer.

2000 or better grit wetsanding would help a lot

Wouldnt this just make the blinkers almost useless?

not if i swap them out for LEDs (thinking switchbacks)

They still won't illuminate well since they will no longer have anything to reflect off of, regardless of bulb type.

Most LEDs are not designed to use reflectors. Thats why LED headlights have no reflectors. LED driving lights have no reflectors. Get a proper wattage LED switchback and you wont need a full chrome reflector to get the same light intensity.

Cars that come stock with LED drls/headlights/driving lights/blinkers have properly designed LEDs along with the correct diffusers. Even LED headlights use a lense over them to spread out the beam.

By all means, if you like little dots of amber blinking in the bumper, go for it. Because thats what youll get with most off the shelf LED clusters in a blacked out housing.

With that said, Id love to see before/after pics with the lights illuminated. Preferable with the same camera settings.

Actually I do like the led dot lights all over the place. In fact of all the combos I've looked at I may end up doing spider led black chrome housing front turns with these type

They are quite visible with no reflector at all.
I dont endorse these in particular just the type and how the look.
Much like the tails on our BRZ / FRS actually. The ones I sampled were bright and more viable then out tails though

Do you have any pics of this. I was thinking about doing this mod. Thanks!
