FL Insurance with Turbo Kit added (or other parts)

Fellow FL members, I woke up today with a question burning me slowly....

What insurance options do we have for our cars if we add a Turbo kit?
What about if it is not a Turbo, just H/I/E?

This question can be separated in two.

1) What insurance company will cover the price of your aftermarket parts?

2) What company will just underwrite and cover your car, regardless if they cover the price of the parts?

I called Geico today and they said Flat out they do not cover cars with an aftermarket turbo kit installed.

I would like to get specific responses of members firsthand experience who do it, and how much of a change is it in policy.

@Dave-ROR may know about this...?

Thanks!

Not sure specifically who does and does not, but State Farm will cover modifications if you disclose them and their values. I've never asked anyone specifically about turbo kits though.

So since no one has answered, what do people do? Just don't tell their insurance company at all?

I have Allstate and my policy covers aftermarket parts. You only disclose the price of the parts if you are in an accident. Before I had the FR-S I had an xD. I hit a deer and the car was in the shop. They covered the damage done to the carbon fiber hood and vinyl wrap. I just had to provide proof of the costs.

My only other question is specifically about a turbo kit. I honestly don't care much to have the parts cost installed, I am more concerned with insurance companies actually insuring the car if I add a turbo kit. I spoke with Geico and they said they would not insure a car with a Turbo Kit. I honestly don't know how accurate is that because I've read in the internet people claiming Geico insures them no matter what mods the car had as long as it was street legal.

I believe all they care about is the value of the car. Be it stock value, modified or whatnot.
Tell them it has accessories added and the value is $x. They say ok then your rate is $x.
Don't know of insurance companies stopping coverage for a turbo addition. I guess they could.
They just want your $$$.
So tell them the total price of what you want the vehicle to be insured for, and they'll give you a new quote.

I just spoke with esurance today and they said they don't care what modifications the car has but provide coverage up to $4K, for an added price of course.

My insurance company (USAA) actually paid for an aftermarket intercooler for my EVO when I had an accident. It had the stock one on it, I talked to them and they allowed me to get an aftermarket one up to the price of the OEM.

Esurance is owned by Allstate so I would assume it would be the same for them as well.
