Edmunds target launch
Edmunds says target launch: Winter 2012.
http://www.edmunds.com/scion/fr-s/2012/ "The FR-S will not be your friend's boxy Scion. With sleek styling, rear-wheel drive, sharp handling and a low-slung boxer engine, this should be the car that finally injects some performance pedigree into Toyota's youth-oriented brand." |
I believe Toyota when they say spring/summer 2012. Just more speculation is all that is...

My Ouija board sources tell me that it will go on sale December 21, 2012 and ring in the Apocalypse.

why not ask your source?

With all the wait they've managed to make us do I wouldn't be surprise if it was pushed back that far. I mean just look at the market situation, although I hope it isn't push back because heck we've all been waiting a very long time.

Sorry, playing L4D lately. :D It's not like you're taking this wild speculation serious either right? Nice job, 82mm 4g63, mind blown. I actually assume when someone means winter they mean the 9 days before/during/after Christmas. Jan-March is the season for fishing. |

"Speculations are Edmunds.com's expectations"
 |
I posted start of production in another thread. It's March. Will hit NA end of April, so figure for May 1st launch. (give or take a week)

I would assume that if the mag/edmunds meant a jan 2012 release they would have printer "Early 2012 release" like most people.. |
I think its plausible. I think a simultaneous worldwide release of the FT86 is hard for Toyota right now, so seeing it arrive in the USA a little later than Japan makes sense. We def will not get it before Japan thats for sure.
|
We have been told June/July 2012 here in Australia
|
If if the Toyota version comes in the summer next year, I wouldn't be surprised if it came late 2012. It would only make sense if it came later if the exteriors will be different.

I'm hoping Tada-san makes his rounds to all the distributors so I get a chance to chat with him. Maybe get a signature somewhere on the car. |

I would say the chances of the common person being able to get a VIN that ends in 86 on purpose/special request is almost nill. A) there will be a too many people requesting that # B) Toyota just doesn't have the man power to meet everyones demand C) What motivation does Toyota have to create this headache for themselves? There will be more than enough people interested in the car for them to sell (if they hit the rumors floating around). So someone will still by the VINs that end in 85 and 87 along with all the other numbers. |
Quote:
It's not about creating headaches for anyone, it's a matter of me looking up a VIN allocated for Canada that ends in 86, seeing what colour it is, and determining if I want it or not. |
Quote:
So for every 100 cars you are going to be willing to accept 1 car to get the 86 number VIN. That comes out to 1% of the cars meeting your requirement. Throw in 5-6 colors, manual vs. auto, and different packages and options and your list of potential cars starts shrinking. If you work for Scion/Subaru, you would get an inside scoop on inventory before it hits land. The common person won't get that advantage. Depending how picky one is on color, transmission and options, less than 0.5% per 100 cars would fit what they would want. It isn't like you can just call up Toyota and say "I want a white, auto, dark interior, options A, C and D with VIN ending in 86." Now if you don't care about color, transmission or options, you chance of getting a car with VIN ending in 86 goes up to 1%. Now lets say that for every 100 cars, you have 1-2 guys that want the 86 number car. Things start getting more competitive and your chances start decreasing. |
Quote:
It's marginal, but Scion doesn't have "real" option packages, or multiple interior colours so all I have to really worry about is colour and transmission. |
I'm sure everyone will get the 86 in their vin number. It'll probably be something like...
JT__86____... J=Japan (nation of origin) T = toyota 86 = chassis code |

Just curious about the 0086 in the VIN number discussion. Who cares what the VIN number is? :iono: |
Quote:
The discussion above was about getting a vin like JT1FT86CxCL2386 or JT1FT86CxCL0586...etc. Quote:

I always make sure I get the EXACT VIN i want because when people come up and ask about my car always the first words out of their mouth are "hey nice car do you have a cool VIN?" and im always like "well yeah duh" Specialized VINs sounds like alot of effort for something not really important....but if it floats your boat then hey give it all youd like i know i wont care what my VIN is.
|
I'm only going to by the car with this VIN...
JT1FT86CxCL133786 That way I'm sure to have the leet'est 86 in the country. |

would be cool but thats a little too fanboi like for me |

A winter launch for a RWD sport coupe is a terrible idea. Edmunds is full of shit.
|
Edmunds is basing their projected Winter (early) 2012 release on the fact that the production version will be unveiled at TAS this December. It's stupid marketing to generate interest in Dec 2011 then make consumers wait a year during which they can change their mind about getting the car. Once a fish is hooked on lure, you don't wait a year to reel it in.
