Brand Loyalty

I'm really happy I didn't really have any brand loyalty to either Subaru or Toyota/Scion before buying this car. It seems on these boards there is a fair bit of a rivalry between the Scion/Toyota and the Subaru people, implying that one make is better than the other, or one is more responsible for the FR-S/BRZ/GT-86.

This is silly and I hope it stops!!! Thank whatever god you thank that Subaru and Toyota had the testicular fortitude to develop and bring such an epic car to market!!!

I selected it because it was the best choice for my lifesyle and needs. I have a 400 mile per week commute and I autoX 20+ times a year! All the while I live in a very densely populated area and there is no way I can own multiple cars, I hardly have room for one! I would have bought this car even if it was a Honda ;)

There's actually a rivalry with subaru vs toyota/scion, and toyota vs scion. There's a lot of toyota fans with bitter beer face that it was branded scion instead of toyota.

That being said, I hope Scion becomes toyota's performance arm. The next supra will be the FR-SS (super sport)!

I swore up and down I was a Nissan man until they let me down; then I bought my first Honda, an Si sedan. Now I elatedly drive an FRS...

Supra will never be a Scion. Keep kidding yourself, its going to be a 80K+ car

raul 08-30-2012 02:45 AM

All that stuff goes out the window once you start driving the car rather than worrying about how it looks when other people look at it. You know what you have is good, why care about a badge. If people ask about Scion, take it as an opportunity to tell them about the car's heritage. Tell them how it's a Toyota with a Scion badge and not the other way around.

That's just as absurd as an $80k Toyota...

If people can pay 100k for nissans, whats wrong with a 80k supra. Plus MKIV supra cost 49k when it came out, which is around 80k in today's dollars.

I guess it's just me...if I had 80-100 grand I wouldn't be looking at Nissan or Toyota...

Neither mate. Used 911 Turbo here I come

To me, I do have a strong brand loyalty to Toyota because my family has owned many Toyotas and we have felt that we've never owned a bad Toyota. I don't have any experience with Subaru, but I have always been interested in getting a WRX or something like that. But that hasn't detered me from dipping into other brands at all.

"Brand loyalty" is a joke. If its a good car, its a good car. The whole car brand clique develops as a way to negate buyer remorse and make people feel better about the car they bought. Thats not a bad thing, but when people take that to the point that their "hating" on other cars purely because of a badge, thats just retardation. A good car is a good car and a crap car is a crap car. Not quite sure where the hell a badge makes that determination.

With the 86/BRZ/FRS Toyota and Subaru Fanbois will get the best of both worlds:

Subaru Fanbois: You get a Subaru-built product. With all the stamps you could ever want.

Toyota Fanbois: You get a product inspired and designed by Toyota.

Good way to think about it: We drive Toyotas built in a Subaru factory. It's win-win in terms of fanboism.
