Ok so lets say you have $10,000 dollars to drop in modifications on this car. What would you do to it? I know i'd like to spend it all on performance and get the car up to my liking of speed then spend some money on looks, but id just like to get some ideas from all of you guys. Please try to be specific when you describe what performance mods you would do, because honestly i want this thing to be a complete MONSTER! Haha please don't hate on this thread because i'm honestly just looking for some ideas! Thanks guys!

The car's not out yet, no one knows where it's weak or where it's strong, this will just be random useless info.

For me, since I'd be autocrossing it mostly and some track, I'd run Penske shocks, springs if I didn't want to stay in stock classes, definately custom rate springs for track use, some track brake pads, intake and maybe exhaust to hear the car with a helmet on, and if serious enough with it two race buckets and a 4 point rollbar since I wouldn't want to tow the car (otherwise 6/8 point cage).

But I'm guessing that's a completely different direction from what you meant.

:word:

But I'll give it a shot anyway. Sticky tires, lightweight wheels, synthetic fluids, track pads, coilovers, and a stand-alone. That should be enough to get started.

Are you doing the Scion Tuner Challenge?

Also, don't do what they did on your 'Gojira' tC. That twin charge was a waste of money and too much complexity for minimal power gains.

And how much of this money is going into install labour, or is it $10k just for parts?

This is assuming the prices stay the same and are approximations. I want to make mine looking simple, clean and fun to drive at the stadium for Sat events.

1)Ohlins suspension= $2800

2)F/R strut tower braces= $1,000

3)TE37's $800/each= $3200

4)Yokohama Advans $350/each= $1400
----------------------------------------
$8400

5)Single fixed seat, brackets and harness bar= $1,000 (if available)

Thats what i like to hear! and yeah its just 10k for parts. And yeah the cars not out yet, but we gotta do something to keep us sane for the meantime :P

Are these solid gold??? JDM titanium?

I could make carbon fiber and stainless steel strut bars, pay myself a wage for the time, and sell them for $450 each and still make money.

I was thinking more of a 3-point, Titanium type of strut bar and just estimated the max to be around $500/each. I'm sure there is going to be GB venders and hookups here which will bring down the costs.

Can you make them? That would be sick!

Don't have the facilities at the moment (can only do stuff on break at work).

And if anyone has some 1/8" titanium just lying around, my buddy the welder wants some practice on it. It can't be too expensive as a Fujitsubo full titanium cat-back for a Mk4 Supra is less than $2k. (WRX/STI etc... are over $3k, though?)

http://www.tein.com/products/fujitsubo_super_ti.html

We haven't started looking into sourcing Titanium as we were planning on starting with chrome-moly for structural steel parts, and 304 stainless, then 321 stainless for exhaust parts. Titanium would come if we did well enough to justify the up-front development money.

If we did strut bars in titanium, the initial material cost would be expensive as we would need bar/sheet stock that is big enough to cut the rings that mount over where shocks/struts are, and find something to do with the left-over inner circle once they are cut. Then the brackets and gussets welded to the rings. A machined mounting piece with a RH/LH threaded adjuster for pre-load that is bonded to a carbon/aramid main tube and bolted to the brackets. This would be a basic 2 point brace. We were planning on the above design starting with chrome-moly instead of the titanium. We've got cardboard templates and dimensioned design drawings that we did ourselves for a Mk3 Supra brace.

The amount of CF in a strut bar is ridiculously cheap, my other buddy used to do hoods and cover interior bits with CF and it's not near as $$$ as people think (a lot of labour though but 'sock' fabric which is a tubular weave that slips over a mandrel is easy).

We were working on getting some jigs and fixtures for this plus, exhausts and headers ready (welder was practicing 2-1 merge collectors), but a shop (3 car garage at a co-worker's place) I was going to rent fell through, the week before I was planning on buying a TIG welder, plasma cutter, and compressor.

Oh well... (actually I was so pissed I put up that rant thread in off-topic)

fatoni 08-11-2011 11:09 PM

a monster street car or track car? ohlins are great but kinda overrated. i would probably end up with ast or a nice koni. some nice wheels but as small as the brakes would allow then pads. maybe a kraftwerks supercharger and then leave the rest for the stickiest tires in the size i wanted. all the fluids and stuff of course. its tough to say without knowing what this car needs

tree fingers 08-11-2011 11:52 PM

I hate to be "that guy", but ehh, whatever.

Honestly, get the car, learn the car, autocross/track day/whatever. Then, you'll know what the car needs, rather than asking people on the internet what they think it needs.

I mean to be honest we dont have to many tracks where i live, so i'm going to put some stuff in it to make it faster in a straight line, however coil overs, strut bars and suspension are definitely going in it.

Spencer Strayer 08-12-2011 12:22 AM

You think someone will make a thread, when this car finally hits production, where we can all show off our rides? cause that would be like idea central!

There will be build threads. We even have a couple good ones now in 'Other cars'. BoostJunkie is building a BIG power Mk4 Supra and Dragonitti is building a turbo tC track weapon.
