BRZ/FR-S Gunma plant aware of these Solenoid, Cam, CEL problems?
Not sure if a thread has been made for whether or not changes for this problem are being made at the assembly line right now (didn't see any), so I thought Id make one. Is the plant in which FR-S/BRZ/86's are being assembled aware of the CEL problem numerous people are having with their cars? I hear ALOT of people are having their cam gears, solenoids, etc.. replaced, and couldn't help but think that maybe they should resolve this problem now at the assembly line as well, before any more of these cars get shipped around the world with problems that a dealer is going to have to fix later on. Just a thought for maybe those who have ordered a car, and are waiting for a November, December, January delivery date. It would suck if the cars still have to be taken in during those delivery dates too for this problem. I know that Toyota & Subaru are aware of the issue, and it seems like it would be less work if the problem could be resolved at the source, no?

I'm pretty sure Toyota and Subaru, which are very large automakers, are doing whatever is possible to fix the issue as quickly as possible.
The nature of it is it's a brand new car and it's going to have some issues. The important thing you have to remember is there are more cars WITHOUT problems than with. Everyone on the fourm who has an issuie is going to post up about it with anger or disappointment ASAP. Do you think people with a normal experience do the same. No. |
There are only a hand full of BRZ/FRS running around where I am and everyone has the chirping noise and some has the AC tweet. Some of them are not on this forum.

SUBARU Service Bulletin: 02-132-12 Issued 8/21/12
Found it by Googling it. It's in the Subaru BRZ forum site. It's 6 pages, shows how to diagnose (flow chart), and looks like it is also effecting the 2012 Impreza with the FB engine. "AVCS Slow Response" Codes P000A, P000B, P000C and P000D along with "AVCS System Failure" Codes P0011, P0014, P0017, P0018, P0019, P0021 and P0024. One thing I found amusing was that it says: "It is important to remind customers who perform their own maintenance or have it done elsewhere the importance of following the Owners Manual recommendation for proper oil viscosity, API specification and service interval". |

I am just as paranoid as you are my friend. I have been driving it everyday to rack up some KMs/Miles just because if anything were to happen, I want it to happen sooner rather than later after warranty. Currently a little over 1000 KM on the clock; That's all I'm going to say... don't want to jinx myself. lol
Needless to say...it really does feel like it's a ticking time bomb from reading all these problems. :iono: |

Our local Toyota dealer down here has already replaced 6 faulty VVTi solenoids.
So there is an issue. Wonder if this is related to the dip in power |
