New user, thinking about getting a BRZ

Hey guys, so I'm a current owner of a 2008 Honda Civic Si. Lately I have been thinking about getting a BRZ but with the mark up on price due to the Japan situation and the fact that it's a Subaru, I'm a little cautious to just go for it. Are there any dramatic differences between the FR-S or BRZ that would cause one to be better? Should I just wait it out and see if they release a turbo version? Give me your opinions. Thanks

I think that most people are getting both the FR-S and BRZ at or around MSRP. So it's possible to not pay a markup if you look around.

Both are basically the same car. Lots of threads regarding the difference if you search a bit. Summary is that BRZ has a bit nicer interior with a few more features standard -- Nav bluetooth, etc. The spring rates are slightly different, but it's not that one is better than the other, rather it is a question of which suits your driving style better.

Lots and lots of info around to answer your question. Google and the forum search options are your friend! :)

I appreciate the quick replies! You don't really see that on other forums haha. Well I have been wanting to pick up a CR s2000 for sometime but when the BRZ came out, I was like "hmmmm... should I just wait to see if it gets a turbo?" Before I make any real decisions though, I need to go test drive :-) Thanks guys for the feed back

That;s a great question. I would go with the FR-S simply because it is some what relate to Toyota and I always think Toyota vehicle are made to last.

Ya this is true. Would love to own the Toyota version though ;-)

Why would "fact that its a subaru" stop you from buying this car in any way. Subaru has been making the most reliable car in japanese market. Thats why most % of subaru vehicles are still on the road. If anything toyota would be what you are worried about with all the crap they are making lately

With that said, check out the video of civic si vs brz. Also why do you want to switch your car? Dont worry about mark up, people are buying the car for msrp.

Hey I think you may have misunderstood my meaning of "fact that its a subaru" I meant that based on the brand, most dealerships will mark up the price versus the Scion which has a set price. I would much rather have the BRZ, I'm a lover of subies!

Note that this car was engineered by Subaru, it's basically their engine. They are also the ones assembling the toyotas, scions, and subarus in their plant. You are still buying a Subaru, either way Subaru also has one of the higher resale values out there. Goin with the scion doesn't really affiliate your car more to Toyota just in this particular case. As for the BRZ, I went with it for the brand and also the extra options just like what youve mentioned. And if you can test drive one, that's awesome! Because at least here in CA at the time I was purchasing you aren't allowed to test drive one. I think you still can't. It all depends what you want in a car, s2000 is definitely more powerful but I'm sure the brz/fr-s may appeal in different ways!

I don't think a turbo version will be out for a few years. As for Subaru or Scion, this might be bias talking but go with Subaru. I got mine MSRP. A lot of dealers practice this you just might have to shop around. Ask around and find a reputable dealer and they will sell it to you MSRP.

Also, a plus is fellow Subaru drivers let you go in front of them when you have to merge into 1 lane. Happens to me EVERY time. We look out for each other :)

Depends do you like amenities like Navigation, Dual Auto HVAC, HIDs/Fogs, Heated Seats, leather & alcantara, keyless entry, etc etc? If you want simplicity & just drive get the FRS. Want extra options get the BRZ.
