I've been trying to google tracks where i can take my car for a run but some of these websites i find are so confusing. Anybody know of any tracks in the tri-state area? upcoming events where i can track?

Newest in the area is NJMP near Millville, NJ, commonly referred to as their 2 tracks Thunder(bolt) and Lightning. Poconos (PA) is also another, but not sure how well maintained the roads are. Watkins Glen (NY) and Lime Rock (CT) are also pretty big ones.

Raceway Park does free runs every Wednesday night and on weekends. Come down in two weeks, run your car, and watch some drifting on the road course.

By free runs I should clarify that I mean the track is open to all (@5pm on Wednesdays), not that it's free to drive. I think it's $40 but check www.racewaypark.com

Drifting is on 9/8-9/9

$40 is still good..this will be my first time ever tracking anycar really so i dont expect my times to be great but it doesnt hurt to practice in a real environment. Been wanting to drag a car for real for a long time i want to do it before the weather changes. Should be fun for me lol

For the road course events maybe, open runs on the 1/4 strip are not that much

What insurance carrier do you guys recommend for tracking? Not so worried about 1/4 mile as I am for autocross or a real racetrack, but I guess accidents can happen even on the drag strip, so might as well play it safe.

I know some places offer insurance just for the day, whereas others make you pay for multiple track events.

I can't speak for a real track but you should be fine with your normal insurance for autocross.

Come out this sunday to the NYR SCCA event. :D

I was under the impression that most of the national carriers have specific verbiage in their agreements that exclude racing or timed competition events, be they pre-organized or not.
