Coming up on 1000 miles...

I was VERY kind to the car for the first 500 miles. Nothing over 4 grand, and maybe half throttle at most.

For the next 200 miles, I gave myself to 5 grand, and was a little more liberal with the throttle, still never putting it down. For the next 200, I gave myself to 6 grand, and still haven't put my foot down.

(I might add, I only wound it out accelerating onto a highway; VERY short stints)

I'll be hitting 1000 miles either tomorrow or the day after. I'm looking forward to wringing it out, but I keep seeing posts about changing the oil at 1000 miles. Do I HAVE to do this? I was planning to bring it to Toyota at 5000 miles as my little service sticker tells me to, but if I'm somehow destroying my car (Which I'd like to think I'm not), I'll call and see if they'll take me in early.

Oh, also, how long is everyone planning to run between oil changes? In my old GTI, I went 5000, and in the Golf I just traded I went 10,000 as per the dealer's recommendation.

You don't have to. It's your car, you never have to change the oil ever if you don't want to. I changed mine at 1100 miles from previous experience. Porsche told first gen Boxster owners to change the oil every 15k miles. Those that did had much higher IMS failure than those that changed it more frequently and its generally considered smart to change it every 5k for long life. I'll change my BRZ at 1k, 5k and then every 5k after that. It makes it easy to remember to do and should be conservative while not "wasting" oil.

Im going against all of my past experience and waiting until 7500k per the manual, im hearing more and more about how strong new synthetics are so im gonna stick to what the dealer says......

Hope all goes well after the warranty expires....

Nice, I just recently hit 1k miles myself. I havent changed any fluids yet. I should though. It seems like I need a new transmission fluid since the gears are kinda noisy.

This may be because the car is a rwd sports car with minimum sound insulation ... however changing the trans oil may quite it down a little bit and remove some metal particles just don't expect it to sound like a fwd Lexus.
