Engine bay
How do you clean the engine bay? or maintain it like new? I'm hesitant to mimic videos from some detailing company that just hoses down water in the engine bay.. it makes me like.. whhhhuuttt??? :eyebulge: So just want some idea about it.

Treat it like you would the rest of your vehicle and do a wipe down (+light rinse>>leaf blow) on a regular basis. DO NOT use dressing as this is not only NOT NEEDED, but will also attract dirt faster.

Dress the rubber amd plastic with 303 aerospace, no attraction if you apply it right. Diluted simple green cuts grease nicely too. Always clean the engine while warm, but never hot.

"Protectants" don't do anything other then make your engine compartment shiny.
If you clean your engine compartment on a regular basis, you'll never need to apply a cleaner/degreaser. Just saying... |

Cover the alternator. It should handle getting wet, but best to be safe. Wipe it down with a damp rag to keep it clean. Don't use a high-pressure spray. The electrical connectors are sealed against weather, but a pressurized spray might force water into them. Just run water over the engine to clean any soap/cleaners away. |

I have seen people using Scrubbing Bubbles cleaner too and it works pretty well and isn't very caustic. Adams Polishes sells a product called VRT and is not greasy, water soluable and dries quickly and is awesome on tires, dashes, trim and underhood plastics and rubber.

Protectants??? Dressings??? What are we protecting against? Heat, weathering, premature cracking? If afraid a dressing isn't gonna help with that. Dressing are made up of oils. These oils can and will attract dust/debris more then if you left it bare. Just my opinion. and yes, some people prefer a dressed engine, but I usually give them these precautions/expectations prior to moving forward. |
