Rants, Raves and Rage!!!
Maybe could use a single thread to sweep up some of the random stuff (like fender benders, and Sir Carl posts...) in 'Off Topic'.
And I needed a suitable place to bitch about this: Got screwed over in a rental situation. Not bad (no money lost) but I'm still really pissed. Guy I work with has a 3 car garage at his place that he is not using for anything but storing junk in it. This spring/late winter I offered to rent it out at a fair price, if he cleared it out. He said ok, but then offered to also let me rent a room in his house to stay. I declined that, but started to help him get rid of some of the stuff in it, (found a buyer for one of 4 restaurant-type coolers he has in it). A few months ago he then told me he is renovating a full 3 bedroom basement suite at his place and it will be ready September 1st. Was I interested? I told him I don't need a 3 bedroom place, and probably couldn't afford it anyways. He dropped the price to $100 less than what I my current place costs, but the garage would still be the price we agreed on. Now was I interested? Cheaper, huge garage, and even 15 minutes closer to work? Damn skippy I was! So I start making preparations to get a small fab/machine/mechanic shop started up with a reliable co-worker/friend (sold my Supra for some equipment capital) and gave notice at my current place at the end of July. Then yesterday he tells me that it's not going to happen. Apparently his dad a few years ago (who has since had a stroke and never said anything to him) signed some kind of 'agreement to buy' contract with a real-estate developer and took $50,000 as a down-payment that would buy their house once re-zoning was approved for a high-rise. So he may end up being evicted at the end of the year or something. And because of his dad's mental state and family issues he doesn't even know if it was possible to back out of the contract. Or he's making up some horseshit story because he found someone that will pay more money. If it's true (and there are some re-zoning application billboards near his house), sucks for him too, but DAMN I wanted a nice, convenient workshop to be able to start up a part-time small business. AND now I have to find a new place to live by September. With a god-damned cat that I adopted from my sister so SHE would have an easier time finding a place... (someone want to throw me an appropriate meme-face that suitably expresses my anger...?) FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUU... |
Think about the little children starving in Somalia. There are refuge camps stretching for miles with starving people. Warlords are preventing food from reaching the refuges. Children are dying.

On the positive note, can you ask your current landlord to let you staying after Sep and forget about the notice? You can explain the situation to him/her to see if that works out for you.
Well, if you are willing, you might want to check if your co-worker is telling the true story by checking that re-zoning thing through the city. If that is indeed the case, you have no way to say. One thing I find it interesting is that if your co-worker has finished renovation the basement for 3 bedrooms? If so, that would be a huge waste of money if the house is going to be leveled down of high-rise building. I think might be the tricky point where the stories do not line up. Happy finding a place in Vancouver to live. |
Went through taco bell drive thru today. I was decently hungry and ordered 5 soft tacos. At the window I asked for some sauce. Now I'm not the type of person to check the bag and make sure my orders right cause I usually don't care. Well once I get home I open the bag to enjoy my meal... AND THERE IS ONLY 3 PACKETS OF SAUCE! What the fuck. Now i have to make the choice of having 3 good tacos with the proper amount of sauce and 2 shitty plain ones or risk it and try and divide my packs between them. 5 TACOS AND 3 SAUCE! Come on lady its not like those packets are coming out of your pay check. Hook a brother up.

That definitely sucks, but what good would it do to find out if he is lying or not? If he doesn't want to rent it to you now, for whatever the reason, he doesn't have to. Calling him on a lie isn't going to change his mind. :(
Craigslist the cat? I hate cats, I wouldn't lose a wink of sleep if I let one free outside. Definitely not letting one screw up my living situation. |
