CEL and SL on -My experience so far
Hi All,
Here is my story (hopefully it will have a happy ending). So far.... 1) Picked up my FR-S on 8/26/2012 with 8k miles on it. By 25k miles (same day), I had both the CEL and SL on. The car was sputtering/crackling, very rough at the idle. After driving the car on Sunday, the CEL and SL both disappeared around mid day but the sputtering at the idle continued.:mad0260: 2) The dealer was closed on Sunday so took the car in first thing in the morning today. Mentioned all the things happening and they gave me a ride to work. 3) Got an update from the dealer. The code they pulled is P0019 “Bank 2 Sensor B”. The Service manager told me that 2 of his guys actually own WRX STIs and know friends with BRZ and FR-S (if you guys are on here, do let me know your experience) and are well aware of this issue. Subaru has actually issued a TSB for this. While Toyota has not officially issued any thing yet as they are “still assessing” the problem. He assured me that they will likely end up replacing the Camshaft and Cam gears and may be "other things" (whatever that means). 4) At this point , they are trying to recreate the problem so that the code can show up. 5) They will be providing me with a car today so I am not stranded in my office all day! I pray that i get my car soon and FIXED!!!! Will keep you guys updated on what happens next. |

SL went out sooner than the CEL.

Just so you know, I had the same problems the first week of August. I haven't seen my car since. The parts are on backorder so I don't expect it anytime soon. You'll be lucky to see your car again by mid-September. Sorry :iono:

Update 2: Went to the dealership, came to find out that the whole vvti assembly (camgears, solenoid, shaft) need replacement. They were in contact with Toyota headquarters in California and there are no parts in the ENTIRE USA at this point! WTF!!! As soon as they know when the parts gethere and estimated arrival, i will know when the car can be fixed. He said that once they have the parts, they can fix the car same day. At this point I wonder, if I have the right to another car???? |
Don't get too worried...yet. When my fuel line popped, there were no replacement parts in north america. I don't remember the exact timeline, but I think they had the parts from Japan in a week or so.

Sigh, was really hoping for 700mile/hour BRZ, and that's with CEL and SL.
Good luck. |

Update 3:
During my lunch break at work, I called Scion USA (866-70-SCION), told them the whole story, and in short was assigned a "specialist". This person than assured me he would work on his end to get the issue resolved as quickly as possible. By the end of the work day I got a call from the dealership and they updated my car's status to "critical" i.e. High importance. Even though there are no parts in the states, they will special order everything and should have it in by Thursday/Friday. So, technically I could have my car back by Friday/Saturday. I am a bit tired of driving the rental Camry at this point ( no offense to the Camry owners). :iono: |
Yea, I got same issues with just 300 miles and dread taking my FRS into shop knowing there no parts. I am addicted to my car. DRIVE LARGE

Update 4:
I was supposed to get my car back today around 8pm but instead... Got a call at work from the parts asst. manager and he says, "I got bad news, your parts will not be here until 9/10". As soon as he said this, I hung up the phone, wrapped things up at work and headed straight to the dealership to talk to the General manager. I talked to him for almost an hour and explained him my frustrations. Long story short, they will pay for the rental until the car is fixed, extend and give me the platinum warranty (100k/7yr I think) and pay my first month car payment. I told him that I hope....i really HOPE the part fixes the issue because if it doesn't than we need to have a serious conversation about a replacement. So the story continues... |
