Injen Short Ram Intake Installed on my 86 :D
7 Attachment(s)
Hello everyone, I just recently installed my Injen Short Ram Intake for my 86.
The install was maybe 1 hr and 30 mins long, because we couldnt find some tools haha. Well Let me tell you, this intake makes my Car feel way more powerful. It adds 10+Hp and 7lb torque and deletes the sound tube :D I got it for $267!!!!! Thats the lowest i ever seen it go for!! and that was with free shipping, If anyone wants to know the vender i will let you know. Also this Short ram makes the engine sound so much better :party0030: Here are some photos of it, hope you enjoy!!! |
Make a video of how it sounds.

make The viDDeoo already!

those numbers don't sound right lol.
regardless congrats, honestly I wish it was more flush with the opening at the front like the stock set up .. of course this probably limits the air flow .. |
what vendor did u get it from?
|
To everyone i will try to make a video tomorrow

Tell them @Tltc told you about them, thanks. |
how does it sound better without a sound tube? duh! (trolling)
|
Sweet thanks for the info, I've got like 3 weeks before I can start buying any parts but this will probably be one of the first.
|
How do you know what HP + TQ results you have achieved, if any? Did you dyno the car before/after? Are you going off of manufacturer(s) claims?
I would think that if Toyota/Subaru could bump the output that much for so little, they would have done it at the factory level. I don't mean to be a jerk but whenever I see aftermarket claims like this, I'm highly skeptical, especially when it comes to intake products (K&N, I'm looking at you). |

That being said, I would like to know how the OP knows exactly what the horsepower and torque change is from this. I hope the numbers are true, that'd be sweet. |
The stock intake already seems very open, I don't see how this one can make that much difference.
|
Mine was suppose to have gotten here Friday, but for some reason UPS got lazy and rescheduled for Monday, Ill see how that goes once thats put on.
|
people need to stop believing vendors claims and do some independent testing..... Regardless, happy you are enjoying your intake.
|
I would guess that this system provides not more than +5hp. Not saying it's bad, but of all restricted areas, the intake on this car isn't bad at all. I would imagine that the different throttle response feel makes the car feel far more powerful than the numbers actually indicate. I would love to see an intake make that much power though, if true I would be happy and pick this one up without hesitation.
|
Well i really don't believe the manufactures claims, but im thinking it bumps the Hp up 5-9 hp and 4-7lb of torque. But im going to dyno my car, when i find a dyno shop with the OEM Intake and this injen one.
|
Even if you look at the vendors graph you will notice that there is power loss through a large portion of the power band. Then when close to red line it switches over and you gain slightly. So you loose down low and gain a few up top.
Then you also have to deal with throttle lag and bogging when driving at normal speeds. |
Injen dynos with the hood up:thumbdown:
|
Got my Injen intake today, and resetted my ECU by disconnecting the neg terminal on my battery. let me just say it takes a couple of minutes to read back the map, and lil by lil it starts feeling a little better, a lil more responsive but not really noticeable. I really do need to dyno a before and after.
But I can say it picks up to the 3 digits a LITTLE quicker. |
do I need to do anything to the ECU after installations ?
|
The original post sounds like an ad.

There's no point in buying an intake without a tune for it.
You can get the same performance by buying an aftermarket air filter and putting it in the stock intake. Believe it or not but the stock intake is good. Change the filter. Buy the tuning kit and wait to see who makes the best intake based on the tuned results. Save your money. Also , do the same with the exhaust and wait. The cost of an intake is 33% the cost of the tuning kit. I bought the Visconti ECUtek tuning kit and I'm waiting for it to ship. |
I just installed my injene air intake but now my check engine light is on and the codes won't erase, they say permanent?
|
Yep, I couldn't agree more. I'm happy with my K&N Filter for now.

I disagree man. These need a proper tune to harness anything better than the stock intake with an aftermarket high flow filter.
You didn't quote everything I wrote so I wonder whether or not you stopped reading at that point. The rest of it was this " Believe it or not but the stock intake is good. Change the filter. Buy the tuning kit and wait to see who makes the best intake based on the tuned results. Save your money. Also , do the same with the exhaust and wait. The cost of an intake is 33% the cost of the tuning kit. " That's why I will be waiting to see the numbers of all the intakes with a proper tune to determine which intake I want. It's very possible by the time that happens I will be adding a turbo which means the intake was a waste of money as it will have to be removed. If I stay NA I am waiting it out. Sorry to tell ya you're not getting the advertised numbers provided for your intake. They will be better down the road when you have the ECUtek Tuning Kit and can get true performance increases from it and an aftermarket exhaust. Quote:

Did you re-insert the MAF sensor? If you did you may not have a tight enough fit at the throttle body and/or where the box attaches to the front of the engine bay. Disconnect then re-attach.
Do you have an oiled filter or is it a dry one? An oiled filter could throw a CEL but not always. Quote:

I did independent pulls at another tuning house here in the OC and saw exactly what I saw when my car was being used for the research at Injen. You have no idea what you're talking about. I'm not running an intake at all right now, actually. I'm stock with the tune, but the intake pulls much better numbers, untuned, than any filter does. To say otherwise is a blatant lie. I'm sorry to see you doing that. Changing the filter is purely a placebo. There hasn't been any dynos that have shown any consistent gains other than normal variance between pulls. Please do your research before spouting tripe. Personally, I don't care what you do with your car, but don't trumpet your opinion like it's a fact. In the end, you're only hurting your credibility and providing misinformation to those who don't know better. |

While it is true that the current aftermarket intakes are not EXACTLY the same as adding a drop in filter, I clearly see ngabdala's point. Go and look at Injen/Airaid's Dyno sheets. They are very unimpressive in the sense that yes, there are gains at some points in the curve but in a lot of other places the curve even goes below stock! I am sure those curves would change to be on the positive side with a tune. His point is, a tune would make anyone of the intakes better and that's true. He also points out the best thing to do right now is to wait and see what comes down the road which is another accurate and positive thing to say, no misinformation whatsoever. Also, please take a look at FT-86 thread on drop in filters, they saw a peak 5 HP on practically every drop in filter, that seems like consistent results. Like you said, everyone is entitled to do whatever they want to their car, but he does make some good points. |
forget sound
seeing power gains? I'm convinced the stock air box can flow better with a foam filter like perrin, sio i wanna see real gains before I put down coin, sound is unimpressive Horsies float my boat tho |
Inflammatory remark? Only the inflammatory would see an opinion that way.
I was aiming to educate others and in the end it is their choice. I question whether or not you are able to see the positive. If it's not for you it's not for you. You did write it is a "ridiculous statement." Rather than add fuel to your ignorant and inflammatory statement I replied "I disagree dude." Take a look inside rather than project your negative qualities on others just to feel good about yourself. It doesn't work. Anyways, I hope you feel better. Let's just agree to disagree and not derail or lessen the quality of the thread. Best wishes man Quote:

You all have good points ...
