If its confirmed for the 2011 model year wouldnt that mean production will start as early as mid 2010? granted we probably still wont see it till late 2011. But as for the TRD versions im not sure which way id rather see it go, FI or more tune/possibly slightly larger displacement NA. the later being more of true spiritual successor of the AE86

Yeah, it's old news but it's still great to hear. Saving/waiting for the TRD version.

As MtnDrvr86 said, wouldn't a 2011 model be launched in fall 2010?

Yeah. Methinks there's a mistake buried somewhere in that article. Perhaps the Toyota official meant 2011 production year. I can't imagine this thing coming out next year. There's way too much left to be done.

Late 2011 release = 2012 model year.

I like the name Toyota Apex, would fit well with the concept of careening around a corner at high speed.

VenomRush 11-09-2009 01:37 AM

apex sounds legit!

TRDMAN 11-09-2009 02:10 AM

OH hells yeah

would be nice if it were true though, no?

So how long on average (how many years) do you think it will take the aftermarket to really take off? 1 year in 2 years in? I know there will be some stuff pretty quick but they'll have to develop a lot of stuff for this car.. I know it probably won't be more than average for a new car but Im not really sure what average is.

I'd say maybe more like 3-5 years. I'm basing that figure solely on how long it took the aftermarket to really "show up" for the S2000. Sure there were things before that time but the big boom came down the road when Mugen, Spoon, ASM, J's, Amuse started hitting it heavy.

More sales = faster the aftermarket comes online. I'd say 1-3 yrs though, because Toyota probably will do what Hyundai did for the genesis and Honda for the last civic. Farm it out to aftermarket companies before the debut to start development.
