Fr-S meets big rig tire.

So I was driving home from work and a 18 wheeler blows a tire right in front of me. The retread came completely off and hit the front bumper didn't cracked it but did put a crease in it. It the proceeded to break the turn signal tear the fender well out crack the paint on the fender and bend it bad enough to mess all the body lines up. Also broke all of the plastic supports that connect the bumper to the radiator support. Will get some pictures up soon. They don't really show the damage though. I so my question is i think the bumper can be salvaged just wonder if anyone knows of a lip that covers the front and top part of the bottom of the bumper. Also does a know where to get spare parts? Fender wells the fender that jazz. My insurance company is refusing to cover it even though it was the trucks fault and they fled the scene.

Who do you have insurance with? Just want to make sure to avoid at all costs in the future. Had the same thing happen to my 300C a few years ago and all it cost me was a 500 dollar deductible...the repair bill was for several thousand dollars...:eyebulge:

State Farm they are trying to say it is a collision which will cause my rates to go up. Plus I have 1000 dollar deductible on it. Comprehensive on the other hand I only have 250. Basically I am getting screwed by them. I have been with them for nine years without one claim as well. Needless to say I will be going elsewhere.

Is there a regulatory body or something you can get involved? Fight the insurance then let them handle everything.

Threaten to file a report with the Better Business Bureau. Most of the time that's all the incentive that companies like that need to change their attitude and actually treat the customer fairly.

I am hoping the will make things right before I have to do that. I also have a lawyer with the company I work for that I can contact and get involved as well. Just would be a lot better if they would just do the right thing.

Sorry to hear that. Ugh... what a scam.

Splat 08-25-2012 12:48 AM

common, a thousand dollar deductable? that is insane, 500 maybe on new car , but anyway.....file a police report, get an estimate from Macco or whatever body shop... and if it is 2k or more to fix, file the claim. If it is closer to 1k, well then the insurance is exactly where you wanted it and you just fix it and pay the grand as you agreed to.
Good luck

keep us with the update, i have to agree with you that basically all insurance are useless when shiet like this happen. my car was hit and run by a rental truck and my insurance didnt do a thing.... i had to file a sue against the rental company my self.

Even if they're counting it as a collision, since the trucker fled the scene shouldn't it fall under the "un/underinsured motorist" coverage? Obviously wasn't your fault, so shouldn't cause a rate increase...

MattF 08-25-2012 11:34 AM

Yeah I think it should fall under uninsured motorist or a hit and run. However insurance is trying to say it is a collision. I which will cause my rates to go up. I even have a police report stating I was not at fault and the truck fled. They are just useless I have no problem paying money out of pocket to fix it if I caused the accident but this was not my fault.

Did the tire hit the ground first or fly off and hit your car.while in the air?

I'm sorry dude, I feel your pain. I just hit a cinder block on the highway two days ago that the pick-up truck in front of me. My car is at the dealer right now because my alignment is FUCKED and the ABS light kept coming on! It's at the dealer right now so hopefully it's nothing more than alignment.

Tire was in the air. It exploded off the truck right in front of me.
