JDM side markers

to the OP, thanks for the detailed writeup. and to confirm with the others on the drivers side, the top tab really needs to "click" in otherwise it pulls out very easily.

Same, did i just need to put more force in or is it the clips not bent in right? :O

chanomatik 01-24-2013 05:53 PM

Yeah, my passenger side was kind of popped out. They said it didn't pop like the driver's side. We pushed it in again and it seems to be holding fine now. Weirdness.

ray_brz 02-19-2013 09:33 PM

DIY on point. Great write-up F1point4, followed step by step didn't have any issues.

For BRZ STI side markers, RallySportDirect has them:
http://www.rallysportdirect.com/STI-...r-Side-Markers

For wedge bulbs:
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...1&postcount=51

I have my STI side markers and wedge bulbs sitting in my passenger seat, prepared to install tonight, hopefully.

Whats the difference between the two sets. Does the JDM spec not fit on the BRZ's.

I'm not sure what you're asking. Both sets of clear side markers are for the BRZ. The difference in the STI ones is the design. A couple of posts down you'll see my pic. The STI ones are just more "aggressive"-looking. Both sets are pretty much a PITA to swap.

They were a pain in the ass, but worth it. These are JDM from Nigel. Amber 2-5050 LED's.

Dboe 09-13-2013 07:52 PM

Just put mine on. Was so easy after following the instructions, the clips didnt even give me as hard of a time as I thought. Just study the layout a little in these pics.

When did you purchase yours? Because at the time of my post they weren't being carried by that many people for less than mid-$90's. I've had mine since early this year and only just now seen other vendors on here carrying them and selling them for cheap.

Don't get me started on the fact that I paid $800 for my rear diffuser then it dropped $200 6 months after I ordered and my BRZ finally arrived. Now you can get the replica for $100. It's just the nature of the beast when you want to be an early adopter.

Most FT-86 owners know this since we ARE the early adopters. hahaha

Edit: Just looked at my post date. January of this year, dude. Come on, give me SOME credit and slack! haha

Thank you for the DIY guide, only took 5 mins.

Kwisak 09-30-2013 03:43 PM

Dam good DIY, might have to try this one

Anaxilus 09-30-2013 04:17 PM

Anyone have a link for a good deal on the clears? Smoke seems more readily available.

dlidkea 11-10-2013 10:36 PM

Hey Chanomatik,
I just swapped my side marker bulbs for LED's like yours but it seems now my DRL's won't come on.

Any ideas? Anyone have similar issues?

Derrick 11-14-2013 02:21 PM

anyone know what those black clips are called that is holding the wheel cover

Canehda 11-16-2013 06:14 PM

If the side marker clips in no problem, but is still loose have I then warped the bracket? My passenger side marker came off no problem and although the drivers side came off pretty quick as well I feel like i forced it a bit more… The passenger side is nice and snug though thankfully… :bonk:

mfbmike 11-17-2013 05:14 AM

Will be using this DIY to install mine in the next few days. Is sticking with the stock bulbs with the clear sidemarker going to look bad? lol. I guess we'll see as I didn't pick up new bulbs.
@nigel-jdmparts is selling them at a group buy price of 85$ shipped at the moment. Pretty good deal for legit sidemarkers.

Myv 11-24-2013 06:01 PM

Stupid plastic screw thing won't come out, I'm rotating it and it just stays in place non stop doesn't seem to want to notch out, the other 3 comes out easy though =/ will try another time it's too cold outside.

The LEDs have a positive and negative side. If they're in backwards, it will cause your DRLs not to function. Try flipping each around until your DRLs work again.

how many pounds of force would you say you push to get the new markers to "click" into place?

everytime I push, the whole bumper pushes in too. it feels like i'm going to snap the front bumper off.

and to make matters worse, the metal piece that gets clicked into also moves when I push in.

logoris 03-10-2014 03:28 AM

Did this today with my friend. Word of warning to cold climate DIYers the lock screw can become very brital careful you dont wreck them. But this has to be one of the simplest mods we have done to his car. Once you under stand what you are doing you can be done in 5 min total

You can use a fare bit of pressure. Just put your hand behind the bracket as you push. Its quite a study spot

Driver's side for me popped out much easier than I thought it would. Installed it with new led and it worked fine. No issues. Passenger side took a lot more effort. Finally got it out and replaced with the new led. Unfortunately, I didn't check to make sure the lights were working before I pushed it back in. Must have not pushed the led in all the way because it didn't work on my passenger side. I go to take side marker back out and I break the silver clip on top so it wont stay in all the way :(. Anybody else with broken clips use something different that doubled sided tape to get it to stay?

Also, the black screw that holds the fender liner in place wont pop back in. The bottom 3 work but the top one by the side marker won't go in! Any ideas?

b rawr z 04-13-2014 11:09 PM

The drivers side was annoying to pop out and back in.
Tip: for people having difficulty popping it back in. Get a tiny flat head and try to push the clip towards u by inserting the flat head from under.

I was able to remove mine using a mix of strength and brute force; no screwdrivers were needed. Might not have been the best idea, but it worked like a charm and I used to have a G35 that I had swapped clear corners on, so I just followed the same regime. Easy, simple, and quick, I was done within 90 seconds.

Here's a quick iPhone pic I snapped. Helix light smoked side markers, from the guys over at FT86 Speed Factory. :D

Myv 05-11-2014 08:37 PM

Finally got around to do this, removed it with brute force that's for sure, but you'll feel the click when you pop it out.

ModalSoul37 06-29-2014 10:27 PM

Damn after an hour I still can't pop the drivers side out, now the stock marker won't go back in, do u guys think I warped the bracket or more likely the a clip?

Mine still aren't completely in, but they hold up well. When I have the opportunity, I'm gonna try to use a small screwdriver to force the A-clip back in as suggested by others on this forum.

The clip you push with the screwdriver will more than likely bend when you try to remove them, it wont break but you may need to bend the clip a tad when you want to put them back in, the bracket that the clip slides into is very firm.

So far I cannot find decent pictures to show how to remove this clip as it's in a ridiculously hard place to see and it's more trial and error to get the clip out but once you understand how the damn thing goes in and out it's simple. Kinda makes you feel dumb once you realise how simple it is.

Yeah, I think I'm pushing down on the wrong part of the marker. It's frustrating cuz all the DIY videos make it look so easy haha.
