Calling all RC Guru's: Tamiya's Toyota 86 vs HPI's FR-S
 

I posted this in another thread, but I figured I would get more attention if I made an RC specific thread.

I wanted to compare the different options out there for an RC model of our cars. I'm mostly looking at the two different brands. I realize that there are two versions of the Tamiya chassis ... but basically I'm curious what brand will be better long term. I'm thinking that which ever one I buy, like my real car, I'm not going to be able to keep myself from modding it out.

So, the question is: Which brand is easier to mod and has the most support and variety of parts?

The Scion site says the HPI will do 20-25 MPH. Anyone have any idea on the Tamiya?
Also, I can't seem to find the HPI any place other than the Scion website.

It's basically an HPi e10... If you want a fast FR-S, personally I'd buy the HPi Sprint Flux

then slap an FR-S/GT86 body on it. With lipo, it will do 80 mph. BTW The tamiya body is beautiful, but the description says it doesnt come with light buckets... me confused...

The TT-01 is more of an entry level beginners car. Simple to assemble, fix, maintain. It's shaft driven and makes for a very good drift car.

The TA06 is more of an intermediate car. A bit more complex, with everything on the car is almost adjustable. You can race a TA06 or you can drift it. Its also Tamiyas newest TC chassis.

HPI's FR-S is based off the E10 chassis. This car is HPI's version of Tamiya's TT01. It's an okay car but has a far smaller aftermarket than the TT01.

The links I attached show fixed up versions of the cars (except the E10). Really though, the FRS/BRZ/86 body by Tamiya or HPI is a 190mm shell. Meaning all you really have to do is buy the body and mount it on any touring car chassis. Tamiya bodies cost more but lead the industry in detail. HPI cost a little less but lack some detail and sometimes the shape seems off.
