TRS' LS1 5.7 twin turbo pro-drift build
11 Attachment(s)
After beeing not active in this forum for a while I want to give some impressions of my second LS swap, this time as a drift car. My first German street legal LS build can be found in the engine Swap section. Since this time the engine swap is more one of many things going on and not the actual main part, I decided for the car journals section.
Since Im running low on my time budget, the thread will mainly contain progress pictures and a spec list. It will be your input/questions which might give it some further content. Spec list:
And much more that I forgot or am completely unclear about. Here some pics of how I bought the chassis and the first things I did. That's a profound transformation. Wow.
Props. |
Crazy good stuff. Love it.

Just out of curiosity, is "window pipe" the correct wording? Or would it be a "rear window tail pipe"? Or maybe "window exhaust"? Idk, all variations sounds kind of wiered for me. In Germany we would say "Heckscheibenauspuff". Since we can combine words to a new word pretty much as we like, the combination makes the meaning kind of more intuitive. Phushing it further it could also be a "Heckscheibenabgasanlagenendrohr". :)

New Update:
Waterlines from trunk to engine done, connection to Radiator still missing. Also some small things like filler cap and expansion tank not yet finished. Engine mounts laser cut, bent and welded. Se raw material still missing, so no Installation yet. Rims incomming. First batch of the 10pcs wheel set arrived. Some basic fitment work already done. 10.5J offset +30 rear, 9.5J offset -30 front. Hooker headers installed in reversed orientation. Will be a great basis for a twin turbo setup after some modification. TS style hood installed for testing, but currently only lent from my street-LS-86. Some fitment issues with the IS rack WiseFab V1 version. Will have to modify steering shaft to make it fit. WiseFab extensions wont do it since Angles would totally off. Some fun paintwork at the intake manifold. I love everything about this. But the wheels. Man, I do really love those.

Unfortunately I dont have much time left for an additional build documentation in the US Forums. So here is a quick and dirty overview of the last month's progress. To follow my build more up to date visit my Instagram: @Skunkworx_trs
Completed the body panels, hood and also started with pre-installation of some show-elements. Attachment 228250 Installed the tire sprayer system. I had the idea to use some dead space to save weight and Installation space in the more packed areas and decided for one tank per side solution hidden under the quarter panel. Though, this added quiet more complexity and work then expected. Think I wouldnt do it that way for a second time. Attachment 228248 Prepared the FMIC and further cold side routing in preparation for the second season. Car still planned to be NA for the roll out season at this point. Attachment 228247 Attachment 228249 Made some progress with the exhaust. Still quiet some parts are missing. Still Im happy to have a good part of all the underbody tubing done, from break lines, water lines, fuel lines to a good portion of the exhaust. Attachment 228246 Completely redone the electrics. Everything packed in fire retarting heat shrink. MaxxECU Race installed and connected to the chassis harness, engine harness in place but Not fully connected yet. Electrics are pretty far, but still some minor changes and tweaks are on the list. Also some things like backup light and upper break lights are not yet connected or Not even in the car for now. Attachment 228245 Started development for a twin turbo low mount LS header for the 86 chassis. Something wandering back and forth in my head since years, actually since my first LS swap 86. The room underneath the two banks combined with wide frame of the Boxer chassis is literally begging for two turbines. Attachment 228243 Since I was on my way now, I decided to go all in for the twin turbos right away and printed a plastic dummy for final fitment test. Worked out well and now my CNC laser cut welding jig is in its way. Also the collector tubing sections will be pre-notched on a tube laser based on the CAD model. Never tried it that way before, but I think it's time to try something new. Attachment 228242 Also finished my custom strut tower brace with integrated V-bars. Dont like to skip the V Like many swappers do. Manged to keep the factory bars in my street car. Though, for the track setup with higher intake manifold and more backward engine placement, I had to find another way to do it. A flange for mating the center connecting point will be welded to the firewall once the car is disassembled for the paint job. Attachment 228241 Last but not least one of the rare chances to see the nearly final shape of the car Düring the ongoing build process. Most of the time I also see it in jack stands only. So also for me it's still a nice chance to get an Impression of the final product. Attachment 228244 |
