Drove my FR-S today, did crash...

I was not sure where to post this. Besides a Drove my FR-S today, did not crash… thread I searched but could not find a Drove my FR-S today, did crash thread… so I started one.
There is a narrow 2 lane country road with no shoulder from my house to the 4-lane. Some ahole in a pickup truck coming at me started to drift way over into my lane. On his cell phone?? Deaf, did not hear my horn? It was either hit him head on or take out a mail box. My passenger side mirror took out the mail box, destroyed the mirror, and shattered the triangular piece of glass. It could have been worse, the whole mirror could have been ripped off and damaged the door. Being the nice guy that I am, I told the mail box owner what had happened and offered to pay for it. He told me that this was the second time someone had hit it this year. The first time was a hit and run. It cost me $40. for the mail box, $50 for a salvage yard mirror from eBay with a red shell, and $55. for a salvage yard triangle window from eBay. Both were in excellent condition. I probably should have gone after the pickup truck and got his plate number, but it would have been my word against his. I do not have a dash cam. Yeah, I know I should have one. There's a couple of DIY guides on the forum that I used: https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32694 https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=140323 The fix was not as bad as I thought it would be. There were small shards of glass from the window everywhere. Probably some down in the door frame that I can not get to. The mail box. Attachment 227108 What was left of the original mirror Attachment 227109 Salvage yard side window, came with frame attached Attachment 227110 Fix finished. Attachment 227111 His new mail box, IMO, too close to the road Attachment 227115 I had to dig deep into the repair manual to find the nut torques. Front door window: Bottom 12mm nut : 10 lb-ft = 120 lb-in Top two 10mm nuts : 66 lb-in Mirror Three 10mm nuts: 66 lb-in. There's a rubber gasket on the mirror so do not over tighten these nuts. Edit: Fast forward to today, 6/3. I told the mail box owner it was too close to the road. Someone hit it again. Hit from above, a large truck? It's a mini mail box now. Attachment 227321 |

Got down to Cannon Beach, Oregon today and got out on the beach for a couple hours. The sun was out, but the wind was on & off.
Attachment 227116 Thing is, on the way down there, coming into Bremerton, A huge box truck was slowly passing me on my left and it seems that he forgot that I was there and swerved into my lane making for annoying marks on my precious gem of a first gen. Then he just continued on like nothing had happened. There's a State Patrol office there that I reported the hit & run at, but what kind of insurance adjustments will be coming my way is still hazy. Attachment 227117 Once I got Longview I took 30 west to Clatskanie then south on 47. That's a twisty road. Lots of log trucks and dump trucks going the opposite way. Didn't have to follow them. Then west on 202 to Jewel and south on 106 til I got to 26. That's when I got to follow a semi pulling a lowboy trailer loaded with a 40 or 50 ton boulder. Someone must sure think it was cool enough to haul it up and down mountains full of other boulders located closer. Don't worry. Be happy. I'm on vacation. I guess. |
Hard to tell from the pic. Are those just scuff/paint marks or is the door and fender dented? If dented that's going to be an expensive fix.

Dash cam
I got one front and rear a couple years ago after a couple of close calls. I haven't needed it yet, but it's nice to know it's there.
