Welp, it's round 3.

Been on this forum for a long time now, and I've documented my two previous cars.

My first one back in 2013

And then my 2nd one in 2020
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...6fac5956_b.jpg

I had some life changing/family stuff that took place shortly after finishing the green 86, so I opted to part the car out and just take a step back from cars and driving for a few years.

This year, I hopped on as a driving instructor for NASA AZ to help with the GR program, and was taking students out in a stock 86, which was actually quite a bit of fun, and reignited my interest in driving.

Then I got a chance to ride in a new GR86 that was pretty simple in terms of setup; just coilovers, 245 width 200tw tires, and an exhaust. It was pretty noticeable how much faster the car was, and how much of an improvement the chassis was. So I started doing a bunch of research and then decided if I could get a base white MT car with no options at the right price, I'd jump on it.

Picked it up a few weeks later back in April

Immediately started purchasing items and stockpiling them throughout the year. First item to buy were TEs because I can't not have them lol

Also picked up a catch can, oil cooler, oil pan/baffle, a seat, etc.

Then I started tracking down aero was able to piece together a full setup from Voltex that was in stock, to include the front lip, side skirts, hood, and center mount wing.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...1735e0f6_b.jpg

Talked to the guys at TF Works and they were able to help track down a lot of other parts I was looking for, and got me setup with a custom built set of Reinharte R1 coilovers.

Then it came time to put everything together this past week
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...ba067605_b.jpg

Added the coilovers, Cusco RUCAs, toe links, Whiteline front roll center correction, extended wheel studs, oil pan/baffle, and oil pressure gauge.

Sent the car to WDL here in Tempe for corner balance and alignment, and then bolted up the aero earlier this week. Here's how the car sits now

The goal for the car is to continue using it for driving students at NASA and to compete in UMS TT and eventually TT4 for NASA after the car is developed a bit further.

AP BBK and lightweight battery are next on the list to continue shaving weight wherever I can, as the suspension, single exit exhaust, and rear seat delete are already worth close to 100lbs of a net loss. Also a OSG diff to help with rotation.

Shaking the car down at the next NASA event at AMP on 12/7, and then some more on 12/9 to fine tune and adjust settings.

That's a pretty cool car. I've been considering that wing, even though I'm generally a little anti-wing for my daily car. Do you have any data on the effectiveness of that wing?

I don’t have any measurable data on hand, but I’ve seen a few videos where Voltex was doing testing of their entire aero kit and various wings and had data available.

From what I could gather, it seemed like a pretty mild gain. There are definitely other options in the market for the same price or even less that will provide greater aero benefit.

However, I really like the look of the Voltex kit and since the car is primarily a street car, I’m fine with the compromise between looks and performance.

Some track time finally in the books for this thing.

Ran AMP on Saturday with NASA. Ended up having more time at the event than I thought I would so I was able to get in a bit more seat time than expected. Goal for the first day was sub 1:55 and get as close to 1:50 as possible.

Forgot to check pressures before going out like a boso and the car felt awful. Came in after 2 laps and the hot pressures were like 27psi lol ooooooof

Adjusted that and made a couple small rebound adjustments and felt like I found the perfect setup for my preferences. Pulled a 1:51.2.

Then went back out today and got a bit more time in. Stuck with the same setup from Saturday and instantly felt at home. Did 1 hot lap and pulled a 1:50.3. So mission accomplished lol.

Brakes don’t give the most confidence and I know there’s a few areas I can make up more time for sure, including a couple key braking zones. A sub 1:50 is totally doable if I man up a bit more and just driver better
