Blacked Out Black on Black
65% Tint Film on the Reverse lights, now brighter with LEDs, They will match tails better as soon as I vinyl wrap the tails.
http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/...69E6E8AD85.jpg Sprayed clear markers with lense tint, about 3 coats tint, 3 clear coat, not happy with the finish, so I'm wet sanding and doing two more. http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/...69FF56D30D.jpg Tails in process for phase 1 http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/...6A0F76D2AE.jpg http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/...69D6A2B71E.jpg This will be my 4th car in 20 years that I have gone all black with tinted lenses. These I did a little different this time. The tails were black semi gloss painted on the inner housing but the outter lense was masked off and spray tint was used (Very cool lighting effect happened with the gradual tint top to bottom at night. The strip left over will be 65% Vinyl tinted in phase 2. So far I am very happy with the way they came out from phase 1. The tails look amazing (to me) on the car. I know the look is not for everyone |
I'll post pics when they are all done. Next is to finish tails.
Then Headlights and Turns in similar way I did the tails.. Headlights semi gloss black inner plastic, Outside spray tint edging and 65% tint vinyl wrap. Turn signals the same but no innner housing paint. All will have LED replacement and be brighter the originally. |
Wow, I never thought about tinting the rear fog lights. Looks great!

Looks good man! I'm on the fence about opening up the tails and blacking them out but am probably going to go for it. In past experience I've had with coatings on the exterior of the lens they look like sh*t within a year. Not sure if it was my process or the materials I used but if I ever do the outsides again I will take it too a professional auto paint shop and have them do the black mixed with clear route and then the paint should be bomb proof.
Can't wait to see it all on the car. I have a Raven too (5:AD Edition) that I will be blacking out once the issues with my car are sorted out. So far only emblems and headlights are done. The wheels show up next week and will either be getting powder coated flat black or possibly plastidip'd in case I want to sell them later. |
Stage 2
still need to put vinyl overlays on the tails, but you get the idea. Look 100x better then the stock IMO. But I know its not for everyone. Glad I went with the semi gloss and semi clear tint. Combo matches the rest of the car perfect. http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/...A368882306.jpg http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/...A35F6B8161.jpg http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/...A353AEA797.jpg |
Tails look great. How'd you get 'em open to paint the inside?
|
Those look awesome. That is how they should look from the factory; no more chrome!

I'll post the pre line I painted on it. It's right on the line you need to cut |

If you look at the front of the tail you see why the line area is hard to hide unless you just barely cut it large enough to pull the chrome frame it out. |
Tails look good FOSHO

I'm diggin the tails, they suit your car well...:party0030:

I believe this is called "murdered out." Nice Assetto Garas. I almost got those wheels. This roof spoiler from Grazio might complement your tail light eyebrows and add to that stealth look.

Ok. To give you a little update. I had a little run in with vandalism just after my last post. I found a bootprint and a fractured tail lense. Almost like the ones found one the bottom of faulty lenses, but this one was dead center of the bootprint.
Aside from my thought on what would happen to such a Vandal, I'm not wasting my time fuming about it. Instead a backed up a step, corrected the fracture the best I could, which actually reduced it by 90%, and went a different route. I still have 2 more steps I want to do. Which includes a more organic flow to the lines around the masked black areas, and many coats of clear coat. But I am rather impressed with how they look on the car at this point. Red lense tint added and their is NO smoke on these lenses. I also used yellow turn signals which made the signals a perfectly matching amber some how. http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/...0A0899B642.jpg http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/...09FDCE0A0F.jpg http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/...68F0F89A14.jpg |
