Manga rant!

So, I've watched and re-watched initial D several times over the past few years, and a few months ago picked up the manga where the end of the 4th stage left off. I just finished as far as was translated (591 I think), and I wish more was translated already! If I remember correctly they are up to 624 in Japan... why are we SO FAR behind?

I have some buddies that follow Naruto and Bleach mangas, and they get a new chapter weekly, it gets translated the day it comes out in Japan... what gives? :iono:

The reason why are are behind is because there are not enough dedicated scanners, cleaners, and translators. Majority of them are on other projects.

I was going to jump in as a cleaner at one point, but whoever was scanning at the time got sick then started doing other projects..so i skipped out.

But there are some awesome battles after whats translated so far, Crimson NSX is a beast...the current chapters on in an memory lane arch with the Crimson NSX driver and Impact Blue. While Battling PD's FD3S.

I ran a largish scanlation group since middle school, so I know a bit about this stuff. The biggest problem with scanlating are two things:

You have to have scans, which is what it sounds like, the raw scans of manga. They're also known as "raws" for that reason.

The larger problem is getting translators. You need a translator to translate ACCURATELY the Japanese, since Japanese and English is so different. Because of this, the translator has to either be really fluent in Japanese and English, or you need a proofreader who knows a bit of japanese.

Cleaners are a dime a dozen. The hardest part is getting a copy of GIMP or Photoshop. The scan posted above is a crap scan; the good ones are actually debound from the book.

Manga>Anime *trollface*

No one can "accurately" translate Japanese. It depends on the person. And of course Manga > Anime. Imagination is much better! lol

They're still making Initial D stuff???

Speaking of translation, what's with the title? In the first episode they see Takumi's car perform what was called an 'inertial drift'. Is it a mis-translation of that? Or just the typical reason: 'Japanese think it sounds cool, and don't care as to relevance.'

Shadowsong6 07-27-2011 01:33 AM

Yeah, they are still making initial d.. lol. Supposedly, after they wrap up the manga they are going to start on the 5th stage anime.
