So I've posted this in a couple of other threads but I am just so fricken happy!

I pick my car up tomorrow morning.

It's been ready for collection since yesterday but the dealership is 200+ km from where I live so it's not just a case of nipping down there to collect it and as I don't have a trade in I need someone (wife) to give me a lift down there to collect it.

So I've ordered my personalised plates from PPQ, new plate brackets from Lakin Plates, got my insurance sorted out with Commonwealth Bank and I'm going to the bank this morning to get my settlement cheque.

Not sure how I'm going to be able fill in the rest of the day and considering I had a semi-sleepless night last night thinking about my car, I'm reckoning tonight is going to be completely sleepless. It's like I'm a 5 year old again waiting for Santa on Xmas eve.

I received this picture from my salesguy on Tuesday just to show me that it was waiting for me:

I'll be posting some better pics tomorrow (if I actually stop driving for long enough that is!)

I want to call it Hedgehog as in Sonic
My "mates" however have already named it Waffle as in Blue Waffle (NSFWork/Wife). Jealousy is a terrible thing!

Nothing planned at the moment, the bank account and wife need to recover first as this is a cash sale! I am going to Japan for 3 weeks over Xmas and New Year and have already lined up to go to the Toyota dealership at Shibuya to check out some TRD stuff (starter button, fuel cap and maybe rear spoiler dependant on shipping it back to Aus.) I have a Grimmspeed oil filler cap on order. For now it's all going to be cosmetic stuff so as not to void any warranties.

davey90 08-23-2012 08:21 PM

@Sutty LOL! i like Hedgehog. lol! BLUE WAFFLE HAHA! nasty! what do they drive?? tell them, you'll take them on the track once the engine has done it's few thousand! :P

One of them, probably the worst one for sh1t stirring drives a 2012 Suzuki Alto - He's got nothing!!!!!!

panayi 08-23-2012 09:52 PM

Congrats. Enjoy the drive back

kwood9000 08-23-2012 09:53 PM

Congrats!

KamalT 08-23-2012 09:56 PM

Congrats mine. The only downside I have to say is, it is going to kill you to keep it below the 4000 rpm for the next 1600km while you break it in.

I am suffering and I have only done 124km and trying sooo hard not to go over.

Trust me it is like Easter and waiting to get your easter eggs

On another note, once I hit 1600lm my average fuel usage went from 7.2l/100km to 8 for some reason.

aarhdum 08-23-2012 10:13 PM

Congrats! Welcome to the sonic blue club :)

nix 08-23-2012 10:27 PM

US (of NA) names for colours are nicer than AUS :)

And the car doesn't come in the right shade of gray :D

i reset my average fuel consumption when ever i go for a drive, if its a spirited drive it around the 12l/100km mark and a slow freeway drive, get it down to 6.4l/100km. hit 2000km last night

Congrats Sutty!

6.4 is pretty awesome. I don't drive mine much, so when I do, I enjoy it :P

lokvo 08-24-2012 12:43 AM

So is 1600kms the standard for break in period then? I was planning on just a 1k for break-in, but if 1.6k is better so be it.

Yeah, manual says 1600.

lokvo 08-24-2012 12:52 AM

Cheers...although now it will make the break-in period just that much more difficult :)

Sutty 08-24-2012 05:24 PM

No way would I have been doing that speed, especially seeing as I was follwoing the wife home, although I did have to catch up with her on a couple of occasions (wink, wink)

Pics to come soon, gotta collect my son from work, he doesn't want picking up in the Tucson!!!!

Here are the first few pics after getting home. Only things that I have done so far are removed the dealership number plate surrounds and debadged to boot. The badge pulled right off only using my finger nails and no glue left behind, then again it is 30C in Cairns today, gotta love winter!

It's a bit dusty and plenty of bug splatters so will be getting a decent wash and wax in the morning.

Such a deep blue, the iPad doesn't really capture it.

No badge boot lid.

Late afternoon sun shows off the colour well. (just realised you can see my poor Barina hiding in the background crying its heart out, that was my previous DD, my son has scored that for his 16th birthday, if he gets his L's that is)

Fist impressions after 200+ km on the highway.
Not easy to keep under 4k rpm, you just want to fang it.
Flappy paddle gearbox - very smooth and lightening fast.
Driving position - excellent although right shoulder blind spot is easily missed. Fortunately I always do a double take before maneuvering.
Comfort - considering it was boring highway k's that I was covering and thought that it might be a bit bumpy it was a very comfortable ride. My right leg did start to ache at the hip towards the end of the journey but I think that was more to do with not being used to such a low car and having my leg stretched out so much.
Stereo - I know the audiophiles don't like it but it was more than sufficient for me. The dealer bluetoothed my phone to the stereo for me and imported all my contacts before we left the dealership and it was sufficiently easy to operate whilst in motion.

My son was delighted when I picked him up from work, he first comment was though, it's a bit small and so low to the ground. Kids, who'd have them.

Sparkles 08-25-2012 03:46 AM

Congrats Sutty! I'm jealous

Never even noticed, would have saved myself $400 if I'd known before I ordered my personalised plates.
