So gave Hedgehog a wash and wax today.

The dealership hadn't done a bad job but neither had they done a brilliant job. There was no swirls or anything so I was happy with that. Also she got fairly bug splattered on the drive home.

If you are looking for cheap microfibre towels I found Big W had a 1kg bag for $10, in that bag I got 13 brown towels, 4 white and 4 large blue towels.

Definitely will be picking up another bag at that price. Quality of the towels is fine. I am colour coding as to where I use them on the car, brown will be for wheels, tyres and under wheel arches and sills, blue is for bodywork, white is for windows.

That way after washing them I know what has previously been used where and there shouldn't be any cross contamination. I use a microfibre mitt to wash with, a new chamois for drying, applicator sponge for waxing and two microfibre towels for polishing, one for initial polish off the wax and the second one to go over the whole car again for final shine.

The car came up stunning using Meguiar's Gold wash and Gold wax. Used Meguiar's on the vinyl/plastics inside too. Glass was cleaned with a standard bottle of car window cleaner, can't recall the brand. Also used some Armorall Bug and Tar remover to soften up all the dead nasties before washing it. I use the three bucket method. Took me about 3 and a half hours and was very therapeutic.

she will be getting paint protection soon, but not Opti-Coat as there are no dealers in Cairns .

Took her out to show some friends the new wheels and had to get the microfiber towel out a couple of times when they kept on insisting touching the paintwork.:paddle:

I WANNTTTTT THE DONUTTT, I def will check out my local BigW to see whether they also have that 1kg bag of microfiber towels - hopefully they do! Thanks Sutty

Also kudos to you matey, 3.5 hours washing and waxing the car that's real dedication mate. I thought I'm obsessed but I'm worn out after just 1.5 hours lol!

If anyone can tell me how to remove the silver plastic piece from the steering wheel I would be grateful.
Also the silver plastic on the door handles, can it be removed with having to remove the whole door panel.

Nice Job - Looks awesome - I'd want to get the instrument surround done also but looking very pro so far.

Erm, it's an auto, either from the position of the gear lever and the lit up symbol next to it (PRND) or from looking at the dash. I'm not covering up the gear selected area to the right of the shifter.

I agree, I'd loved to get that part done too, just not sure if my skills will allow me to. This is only the second time I've done any vinyl stuff, this first time was yesterday on my son's car (yes he was the guinea pig, it seemed easy enough so I thought I'd give mine a go.)

Hedgehog is going in for paint & fabric protection, electronic rust and window tinting in the morning. She'll be away for a couple of days but should come back looking pretty spiffy. Will post some pics as soon as she's home.
