CAE Shifter for Gen-1 + Gen-2 GR86
Just landed, looking at this is a piece of art!
Shown is the Aluminum Uncoat with Delrin POM White shift knob. Can't wait to get these on the car this week! The quality and welds of these are second to none, very excited. https://i.imgur.com/9KXmAyE.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/Fg0aHrR.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/WgAc5rg.jpeg |
Is this a second gen of the shifter? I don't see how this one would fit.

You know there's a dedicated place for ads right?
|
Is it going to fit the first gen without modifying the center console?

I believe the "old" IRP shifters were um inspired by CAE shifter.
From CAE's site. |
AAF is bringing their shifter to our chassis too, it'll be out soon.

Gulp! $1245. My stock one is good for now.

It is purty though. |
This is great news. I keep hearing that the IPR shifter has a lot of issues regarding rattles and NVH. Obviously that's a non-issue if my car was a full race car but less than ideal for daily driving. So, I'm keeping my eye out on this one.

Just received mine straight from CAE a couple of days ago with the aluminum shifter and blue shift knob. Took 4-5 days to deliver after placing my order. Total cost: $917.39. It would been over $1k+ for the Black anodized coating
Overall, the quality and craftsmanship in person are amazing. I'm getting rid of my STi short shifter for a direct feel, so I chose this route for street/track. The photo from "systemmotorsports" is to be a WRX/STi version. I've noticed one thing that has changed compared to the old version for the BRZ/GR86/GT86 platform is the nut bolt on top where the reverse linkage located is removed and now is directly onto the shifter frame. I'm guessing it is to help avoid cutting into the center console for clearance on Gen 2? I'm not so sure about the Gen 1 for cutting into the center console as I'm still waiting for a couple of other parts before installing this. Sorry for the sideway photo since I don't post much on the forum. Attachment 224036 |

Will do! Unfortunately, after researching on the Gen 2 market. You need to cut into your console for fitment. This was posted on the CAE website. I believe on another forum for the Gen 2 platform, a member posted that he needed to cut the console as well

Sorry, for the delay guys. But I finally got around to installing the shifter and here's the final result with the new revised CAE shifter for the Gen 1 with WC Lathe Werks Custom Shift Knob and Carbon Fiber Shift Plate Cover.
Unfortunately, as everyone is asking "Do you have to cut into the console? " and the answer is "Yes". There's no way of getting around it. The cut is underneath the shift cover as the "Reverse Mechanism" is interfering with the top portion of it when going into reverse, though it isn't exposed once the shift cover is back on. Another cut is about 1/2 inch located on top of the center console. I used the toothpaste mark method to minimize the cut, and slowly smooth the edges for fitment for the center console. The installation was easy, but it took 3 hours since the Shifter Lever Retainer was a hassle to remove without removing the Driveshaft. I had to remove the Front Pipe and unbolt the Transmission Mount & Driveshaft Centre Support to get enough clearance to remove the Shift Lever Retainer. With everything removed, it was roughly about 4.11 lbs compared to the CAE Shifter which is 2.92 lbs. Also, I would recommend lubricating between the "Floor Shift Control Shaft" and "Pin + Plate Washer" and covering with a dust boot to reduce any dust getting between those parts. Maintenance on the CAE Shifter is lubricating all the moving parts of the shifter 2x every year. Overall, compared to an STi Short Shifter. It is "night & day", and it felt completely raw. There is less throw about 55-60% from OEM, according to the CAE Website compared to the STi Short Shifter being 20% from OEM less throw, and the CAE Shifter is much more precise and consistent. Since the shifter is taller, the travel distance between the steering wheel and the shifter takes less than a couple of seconds to get back on the wheel. Great for track enthusiasts. If you want precise shifting, this is the best bang for your buck. Great investment! Attachment 225096 Attachment 225097 Attachment 225098 Attachment 225099 |
