Prelude Concept will take the “joy of driving” into the full-fledged electrified future

I have introduced some of the mobility products that embody Honda’s dreams, which represent the Honda of today and the future. But we know our customers are expecting one more thing from Honda, and that is sports models.

At the automobile electrification business briefing we held last year, I talked about future sports models. Today, to conclude my presentation, I would like to show you one of them – the specialty sports model.

Everyone, this is the Prelude Concept.

Honda has always been committed to creating sporty vehicles. And the word “prelude” means an “introductory or preceding performance.” This model will become the prelude for our future models which will inherit the “joy of driving” into the full-fledged electrified future and embody Honda’s unalterable sports mindset. The Prelude Concept is a specialty sports model that will offer exhilarating experience that makes you want to keep going forever and extraordinary excitement you never felt before.

In order to offer the “joy of driving” only Honda can realize, we are diligently progressing with development, so please keep your expectations high for this model.

Looks like Honda beat Toyota to make the EV 86

looks like an electric Honda Accord coupe.....
I'd think Prelude would be something a bit more....personable.

Loved the first 3 generations of the Prelude (sort of lost its way after that for me). This seems a relatively decent current version of those, although the design looks a bit cab forward to me. Overall though I'd consider it, ICE or EV. It will depend on the interior. Seems recent Honda seating is stiffer than I prefer.

Oh FFS, it still has FWD proportions! For the love of God, WHY?!

Probably won't even have a frunk either.

It is hard to tell how big it is. Those are 20'' rims, so maybe wheelbase can be estimated from the pics (see below). It looks a little taller and bigger like the Accord Coupe that killed the Prelude. The latest Civic/Integra has a 107 wheelbase, and the Accord has a 111. I would guess this has around 110''. Tesla Model 3 has 113'' wheelbase for comparison.

I'd prefer something 86 sized or smaller, so I will probably wait to see what comes out in the next few years, especially the NE Miata, but it is good to know this might be an option over a Tesla Model 3 for a two door EV that is sportier looking.

Probably for global architecture reasons to match FWD cars like the Civic and Accord. Or maybe for better back seat leg room or for better visibility. Or maybe because it is MR layout the battery inverter and motor is better packaged with the cab forward, but the 86 has a similar look, which is nice for visibility over a longer hood like the Supra. Is cab forward only attractive on Ferraris?

I think the nutballs are right that this is a "close to production" prototype from the interior, proportions, mirror, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if the production version is released "soon" and looking similar.

Okay, so I thought this was an EV. It's apparently a hybrid. So the FWD proportions make sense. It's not a clean sheet "skateboard" architecture EV.

It looks fat and too big. Given Honda's recent track record with reviving hallowed nameplates (Integra, CRZ [basically a CRX]) I have no faith.

Anyone else get serious 911 vibes from the rear end? Even down to the "H O N D A" on the light bar lol

Prelude definitely had a longer snout and more of a rwd look to it. Wish it had a longer front ned to give it less honda civic 10th gen coupe proportions

the integra and integra type s are actually quite good and fairly light for what they offer.

Yes, I did as well. And not a good thing, as the 992's rear end is quite bulbous and unattractive.

I wasn't being critical of the Integra's weight. Agree its weights are decent. But that car sucks as an Integra. They only named it as such for the hype. And no doubt that's probably what we'll get here - something that has far more in common with the last Accord coupe than the Prelude, name being used for hype. (would we even be having this conversation if it was a new Accord coupe that had been the concept? I know I wouldn't be lol).

Agreed. When I think Prelude, this is what I see in my head....
