Loud q300

So I took my loud q300 off and put on a quieter exhaust for my long highway commute. But sometimes I miss the exhaust sound. I was thinking about welding a second resonator on the mid pipe , wondering if that would quiet it down. Other option is to cut open the muffler and repack it some how. Right now it’s just sitting in a basement collecting dust.

Any ideas? Is it worth trying? At worst I ruin it and I don’t mind ruining something no one wants. Plus I can swap the exhaust in about 20 minutes now.

If you still have the OEM front pipe, that should quiet the Q300 down. Other than that, a double resonated front pipe could reduce rasp and drone.

If you can manage to cut open and reweld the muffler pretty cleanly, a repack may be worth trying. It seems like the Q300 mufflers are super hit-or-miss in terms of how long the packing inside lasts.

As an alternative, you could put your OEM midpipe back on (if you still have it), and pair it up with a quieter axle-back exhaust setup.

I was in a similar situation to you last year. Long highway commute meant my setup of long tube EL header + Invidia R400 was a no go - complete drony mess. To solve that, I threw my OEM catback back on the car (which I kept) and sold the R400. Drone was gone, but so was any sound character.

It took me a long time to find an muffled axle-back option that let me use the OEM midpipe to keep drone down, was reasonably priced, and sounded good without being too loud - but with DC Sports releasing their axleback this past spring, I finally found something that filled that void perfectly.

I've had it on the car for a while now and I am still very satisfied. Zero buyers remorse there. Sounds awesome while being perfectly livable and doesn't drone. Very OEM+.

Yes I went to oem but too quiet, no fun. So I bought a used LegSport Club Sport Street Axle Back Exhaust for 250. It’s not bad but I am always looking for something better. I will check out the DC sports. I might look into cutting open the q300 as well. Thanks for your input.

My set-up is loud (not roaring) during cold start-up and when accelerating but unnoticeable while cruising at steady pace, city or highway. This suits my mature tastes nicely.
I stumbled on this arrangement after driving with a misfire due to to a failed spark plug destroyed the front-pipe cat.
The current set-up:
Gruppe-S Catless UEL header, JDL Quiet front-pipe (resonated) with the cat gutted, and stock/OEM mid-pipe and cat-back.
(My lesson learned, never re-gap Iridium plugs)
Good luck finding your happy combo.

Dc sports

Got the DCsports axleback. It’s a nice muffler. I like the sound better then the legsport and not droney on the highways. Thanks Jbezugs for the recommendation. And the price is nice as well.
