Got hit by a Van . What’s the best next move.
Hi guys,
Not sure if this is the right place but wanted to get a few suggestions before moving forward. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...6915efc4db.jpg As seen in the picture, I was hit by the Van while turning left to my driveway. Left turn signal was on, slowed down, braked a few times to slow (saw him getting closer). But he preferred to pass me even before I turned. Dashcam has its proof. Police report will be available 5-7 days. We scheduled an expert to inspect my car here at home and give his decision. Not sure if it get totaled but all left side airbags are down, rear quarter panel bend a little, door and frame as seen. Inner left corner of the dashboard looks kind of bend. What do you suggest for the next step. I took everything from inside and only thing left are my wheels which I will replace with the oem. If they total it, do I have time to take my wheels or do I need to rush and get everything before they come? Brz limited, MY 2019 61K miles Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Take everything off that's aftermarket while you have it. Sell and get a new brz or new platform

I would assume it's totaled. Unless you plan on buying it back and parting it out, remove any and everything that you want to keep off the car.

Should I take everything before the expert checks the car? Can I change my wheels after he checked the car?

Great! That gives me some flexibility. Have some additional sti parts that I want to take. Hope he doesn’t note every single thing of totaled [emoji4] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
ugh... sucks to see.
let the adjuster do their thing. most likely it will be totaled with the airbag deployment, most insurances don't want the liability of that significant of an impact. biggest thing is that the car must be complete for them. it doesn't have to be assembled, but all the parts must be there for the payout. in my case, when my first brz was wrecked, i threw all the oem audio components into the passenger side footwell, and gutted everything i installed which went into the new car. it's really the biggest positive to keeping all the stock stuff, even if i have no intention of ever using it again. |

That’s great info. I have the oem subwoofer but will not be able to get the wiring (driver door is not opening) Other than that, will get my Sti garnish, wheels, stat button , gear knob. Nothing dramatic. Unfortunate that I willl not be able to take my Sti door still. Any idea what they would give me as a value? 2019 60K first owner Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
run an 'average-condition' kelly blue book estimate for your car, in your area. their valuation for trade-in is likely going to be a rough low ballpark for their initial offer. really depends on the company you're dealing with. some, you can play ball with, making a case of how it was kept better than average condition(some want receipts for maintenance), or certain things add significant resale value that would drive that number up.
it really all depends on how long you want to fight with them over it. |
Also toss in receipts for any items you purchased for the car to drive up the value.

You are right! Prepared all Subaru 6k miles maintenance (up to 58k miles), rear bumper protector, wheel lock nuts, homelink mirror (I paid for these at purchase). Also nut sure but my Michelin AS4+ are 9 months old. Other than these I took everything that I installed (mainly Sti stuff). Not sure if there is anything I missed but pretty much that’s it. Met the adjuster today and he went over every single detail. He also scheduled a rental and o got it within 2 hours. His first impression was that it will be totaled but we discussed both possibilities total vs repair. They will decide and also send me a valuation report. Then I will have some time to negotiate.
So, what do you guys think is a reasonable offer? I saw some similar cars with similar mileages they sell here and there between 20 to 27K. I hope they do not offer me 20-22. Would 24-26 a good offer? Not sure but since brand new 2022-2023 were around 29-30K who the hell would give more than 26 for a used car. Maybe I am wrong Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I'm sorry to hear of your bad luck and that your beautiful car got hit. I hope everything works out in your best interest. Glad you aren't injured.
