2023 AutoX Nationals STX Class difficulty

1 Attachment(s)
Anyone who is wondering how difficult their class was this year at SCCA Solo nationals, looking to buy a car in an easier class to trophy next year at Nationals or simply something AutoX to talk about. Here is a list of the PAX position of classes based on how difficult it is to get a trophy in a class, NOT win. Basically the last trophy spot in a class in PAX is the difficulty on the list.

PAX isn't perfect, some heats had slightly better conditions than others, people move from class to class every year changing the difficultly and blah blah blah.

I ran SSC this year, and got that last trophy (hooray! my first one at nats).

The margins were wildly tight.

What a blast.

Back to STX next year hopefully, though not sure I'll bother taking a car to nats as the fly and drive this year was 10/10.

edit: Also, SSC winner was in the 120s on Index I think. I was 1.4sec back from 1st. Worth looking at those spreads, too.

Wait so is XA now a legit class? I thought it was only an expo class for locals

Can someone calculate the difficulty of running a first gen in DS vs STX and trophying?

I kid, I kid.

I was the only first gen at the Finger Lakes Tour and was well down the list.

Cool analysis. Now I'm curious how doing this but with the winners would be

It's a legit class, but supplemental. So you don't get a jacket for winning. Same as CAM.

I think its time the SCCA Makes them "official". If you can run the class at national, you should get the same "reward" for winning as any other class ran that day.

As a Nationals newbie, I should have ran XA instead of STR. :bonk:

Why do you say that?

Less bruise to the ego, i.e. 20th out of 35 entries instead of second to last.

I feel like XA would be a whoever has the deepest pockets class. I only run it because I'm just trying to get faster and I have a built and boosted engine on ethanol and dont want to run slicks. Running NA in the class doesn't sound like a great idea honestly.

Sure, but that's generally what any class that allows for a ton of mods is. Or if you really want to get into it, most every class. I've always thought of them a class for local events to dump cars into that have otherwise innocuous mods, but they put you in some god awful pax class that you need to run hoosiers in to be even relatively competitive.

That's definitely sort of the point of XA.

That said, I'm going XA because I can't deal with the BS of worrying about classing and just want to have fun with my car, so it's also for me haha.

It is pretty fun honestly. I got my doors fucking blown off by a 800whp evo today. The other driver who was the owner only beat me by .4s. I know that I'm not going to win an actually competitive class but I love the race what you brung. I also think it is the biggest actual class in the region too which is nice
