NC 2000 MR2 Spyder with 2ZZ Swap - SOLD
3 Attachment(s)
Bought this car locally back in January with intentions of making it a dedicated track/race car. But now up for sale as priorities have changed.
The basics: -2000 model year with 295,095 miles on chassis -JDM Matrix 2ZZ engine swapped in 2 years ago (roughly 5000 miles ago). 68k miles on engine -Celica GT-S ECU with 6000 rpm cam switchover; 8250 rpm redline -Rebuilt 5sp transmission installed at time of swap -Car had been in accident under prior ownership. Minor damage to front (new bumper) & moderate rear end damage (new bumper, near driver side fender, trunk lid) -No Rust Modifications performed under previous ownership: -Tein lowering springs -Tanabe front strut tower brace -TRD lower chassis brace -Cusco underbody tunnel brace -short shifter (brand unknown) -aftermarket stereo with Bluetooth Car was a bit of a project when purchased, but in the time since I've done the following: -headlight restoration -full exhaust, including MWR header, custom 2.5" piping with resonator & catalytic converter, into Flowmaster dual exit exhaust. C clamps were utilized so the ability to swap out cat for another resonator (included) is a 5 minute affair. -StingRay rear bumper support bar, including tow loop -rebuilt ("new") brake calipers -front wheel hubs -rear axles -fresh brake fluid, engine oil, transaxle fluid -accessory drive belt -OEM timing chain tensioner O-ring -OEM fender linings (3 of 4) -OEM front underbody splash guard -suspension alignment -new battery January 2023 -less than 2,500 miles on Kumho tires The car is properly quick. Really hustles, especially on cam. The exterior is 7/10. The interior 8/10. Mechanically the car runs very well but the ECU would benefit from an aftermarket tune; at the moment it runs a little rich on the small cam. There is a small tear in the top, but it doesn't leak in the rain. Vehicle purchase includes (if desired) a lot of spare parts. Many more pics available upon request. |
Price?

Could you share how it compares to a Twin, especially on track? I have a soft spot for the Spyder, mostly as a cheaper version of an Elise and am semi-seriously considering getting a track-prepped one.

Wow guys, I'm embarrassed that I didn't post a price. Sheesh. Had it listed for $7800. Say had because I have a sale pending.
As far as comparisons to the Twins platform....the MRS's rotation point is more or less exactly where you're sitting. It feels like you're wearing a glove. With roughly only 800 lb on the front end of the car, it reacts to steering inputs IMMEDIATELY. And the 2ZZ engine really gets things going. Roughly 190 hp in a car weighing 500 lb less than a Twin. She hustles. Also the redline is 8300 rpm and the engine loves staying north of 5000 rpm. It's really a lot of fun. |
